I like the black but its about 30-40k more and you dont really get much more...and I hear the transmission in that car is terrible, worse than the C63's. I also believe it is a 5 spd and the C's is a 7 spd.

Might try a GTR -new 2012's coming out soon with more stock power and chassis tweeks. You'll be surprised with the performance. Easily modded for more power, decent dd.
or
ZR1. Great deals can be had on these these days. I'd have one now if I didn't go with the .2 GT3RS. Should be a fun, different experience. GL!

OP, my thoughts for you:

Been down the C6 Z06 path and already got off it. The powertrain is fantastic; there is no doubt about that. As much as I love power though, I love handling and feedback more. The Z06 is very good at handling, but not very confidence inspiring. The rear end is downright spooky at times. The steering has very little feedback; the ride was a little soft to me. I'm hoping if you are serious about buying one, you will get as much seat time as possible before selling the 3 and buying the 6. Personally, there is no way in hell I would ever trade one for the other.

That said though, if your heart is set on buying one I would suggest:
- if you track, either buy an '09 or upgrade the sump system. The sump system has been known to cavitate on high G corners and make the motor go boom.

- look at the the 06-07 and 08+ interiors. While both are subpar in my standards, the '08+ is a lot better. You can retrofit the CF pieces in a '06-07 if you decide you like the later year cars better

- The seats simply suck; single worst feature of the car. If I had kept my car, I would have got a set of Calloway or Caravaggio buckets which have actual support and better materials fit/finish.

- get the clear film protection for the rear rocker panels. Even with light use, they will get sandblasted with rocks, debris, etc. Just a flaw of design based on the aero.

Best of luck whatever you do.

Im not much of AWD fan...but also car will be more than I want to spend. New that car is now around 90-100k, They raised the prices on it. Amazing car none the less.

Really appreciate the input. I test drove one before getting the M3 and I thought it felt like a piece of ****, I didnt get to drive it hard which is where it shines more so...but it felt so big and dinky was strange...but I know they are fun and I figure for 40-50k cant be beat. Im sure that engine has to be a blast

The transmission is the single thing I hated most about the C63. Flappy paddles is one thing, but don't forget, we're talking a full-on slushbox!

GT3 to Z06, I can understand...but not to an automatic Benz

The transmission in the CLK 63 Black Series is a 7 speed. It's not great, but you can learn to use it to your advantage. Also, a good CLK63BS should be available for high 70's to mid 80's. They have taken a pretty good fall.

I just traded mine in on a blue 3RS...

unless you get a four door car, otherwise, you are wasting your time and money switching cars. mark my words, you will be right back into another GT3. once you taste it, there is no substitute. sure, ferrari and such... but at the price of a gt3, nothing touches it.

I AGREE 100 percent, I even drove and F430, didnt think it was near as good as the GT3, Im sure the f458 and lp560 are insane but are 2X the price.

The main difference is that the transmission in the C63 will blip on the downshift, whereas in the CLK you need to downshift a little later.

The CLK blacks are cool(although very thirsty)...just not a big fan of the C63. Although, when I was gassing up my turbo cab this morning there was a super hot chick next to me in a white C63.

Also, keep in mind that the CLK was the first of the Black Series cars, and Mercedes only brought 350 of them to the States...
