Default DME report for a used GT3 RS

Can't wait to get a GT3 and become a full member......

Looking at a few GT3s and saw a nice one that I liked.

DME report showed this:

Number of ignitions, Range 1
4 212.6 h
Number of ignitions, Range 2
4 37.3 h
Number of ignitions, Range 3
--- ---
Number of ignitions, Range 4
--- ---
Number of ignitions, Range 5
--- ---
Number of ignitions, Range 6
--- ---

Operating hours
213.2

can you guys interject your thoughts and enlighten me on this report since i'm not savvy at this.

TIA,
John

It means that you've got a good car to make an offer on.

So, what does the number "4" mean under both Range 1 and 2? I am not sure what Number ignitions would mean and how to interpret it.

Ignitions are the firings of the spark plugs
On a six cylinder 4 stroke engine you get 3 ignitions per 1 revolution.
For 997GT3.1 you divide the max rpm limit of 8400rpm with 60 seconds and you get 140 revolutions per second of the engine at redline.
Multiply this by 3 and you have the ignitions per second of the engine at redline 140x3= 420 ignitions per second on the rev limiter.

From this you can see how long in seconds the engine stayed in a particular rpm range and also from the operating hours you can see how long ago this happened.
From the 997-987 introduction newer DME has the ability of recording 6 types *instead of only 2 types for the previous series so that the dealers can check easily not only when an overrev happened and how long it lasted but also at what range of revs.

Type 1 are very common any owner that respects himself should have those : )

I have absolutely not missed a shift, just bounced off the rev limiter a few times.
Will pick up my printout today because I am curious what overrevs it gives, I expect Type 1 and Type 2.

I had mine done as it was hooked up to the PWIS for another reason. Strangely, I had no type 1 or 2, and I know I have bounced off the rev-limiter.

Anyone know what the ranges for the 997.2 GT3 (not RS) are? I was expecting at least type 1.

Shouldn't the Range 2 ignitions be reflected in the Range 1 ignitions? As in you have to go through the first range to hit the second? The two different readings are 175.3 hours apart...

The hour code tells you the last time that range was hit, no way to know the first (or second) time it happened. But you are right that one would assume there would be more hits in range 1. Perhaps this is a mis-type?

The one 2010 that I have been looking at came back with clean PPI, DME showed "------" for all ranges, which is good I guess, I might pick it up tomorrow, but I am still on the fence for some reason.
