Wishing to trade my new black leather carbon bucket seat centers for the Alcantera ones. I just purchased the OEM GT2 seats in leather. I'd like to swap the center cushions for the factory Alcantera ones that come on the 997.2 GT3/3RS.
PM me if interested.

When I had my 996 GT3 seats, there was a guy at Alpha Bedding (advertised in Pano) who sold Alcantera inserts for less than $300. per pair, and he also embroidered them with the GT3 logo. They didn't fit as well as factory but seemed more durable. I wonder if he would do a GT2 seat deal - if so, I'd be in.

OMG! Why would you want to do that?
Alcantara wears out quickly! I had alcantara steering wheel and shifter. In about 10k miles I swapped back to leather. Shifter was looking terrible and the steering wheel was going to look ugly in another 5k miles.

I've had 4K miles on Alcantara and it looked like new, but I agree it's not the durable, natural material one might think. I have to admit I seriously thought it was a leather product like suede! I made the rash assumption that Porsche was going for a flame-proof natural material, not a cheapo synthetic that pumps out clouds of a chemical factory and will asphyxiate you with glues and colors before you can release the harness and get out of the cabin.

The Alcantera in my car looks fine after 32,000 miles. I haven't had a fire so can't tell you what gases it might (or might not) give off. My concern is that my R3 head and neck restraint is digging holes into the leather insert in my GT2 seat, and when I used it with my old 996 GT3 seats with Alcantera inserts, I had no problems.

I have the folding buckets in cloth and could not be happier! No wrinkles like leather, and no premature wear like alcantara! ![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Maybe my steering wheel wore off to quickly because it was a constant contact point.

No.
I have the Euro GT3 seats (Carrera GT style) in perlon in my GT3 and they're wonderful. The problem with these high-bolster seats in leather is that you cannot avoid rubbing the drivers side bolster getting in and out...ultimately the leather looks very worn and damaged. My seats look perfect...no wear, creases or pilling![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
