A thread on 6speed is about the transmision pressue plate springs breaking loose and damaging the housing on the RSII.....not something seen frequently before but this is the 2nd RS that I have known with this issue.....Beware as Porsche will try to deny repairs under warrenty if this happened on the track....
and always remember...it NEVER rain on the golf course

I can just imagine what can happen dropping the clutch at redline, dont forget this is not a GM product. The downshift, without revmatch will cause this even more so, when I see probs like this, usually not failure of the component, but 99.9% operator error (I call this EPIC fail due to $$$$, not enough skill). PERIOD. As the flywheels get lighter on these cars, you will see the failure rate go up. The only reason the pressure plates explode is due to overrev or torque (most likely due to mis-matched downshift). even more ovious with a stock weak (no preload) diff.
BTW Malmasri
why is it Porsche`s fault if you blow up a clutch on the track. After checking the revs logged, it would be very easy to determine why the clutch blew (just one indicator)

This post was intended as a warning for current RSII owners, not for someone quick to reach a conclusion.
the post on 6 speed occured to someone who has been racing for 15 yrs ( I think that he is likely able to match the revs)
My situation DID NOT occur on a race track....
As you maybe aware....Porsche dealers are not amatures..they do check for overrevs...the result was None ( of any level)....the clutch was not damaged either....so this attiude of class warfare in unjustified by you...
Most owners know how to drive these cars.

Indeed Scott it did and the P techs are concluding a faulty spring of lack of adequate torque on the spring....I was shocked to see the same story on 6 speed on another 10 RS.
Mine is fixed already....took 3 weeks for parts to arrive from Germany

Same thing happened to my '10 RS recently with the Pressure Plate failing (2 of the 3 springs came apart).
They ran the scans to verify that there were no overrevs/no missed shifts and the clutch disc itself looked brand new.

This happened to a 2010 RS here in Montreal this summer. Could not shift gears. Hmmmm is this a trend?

Just FYI, There are pressure plate issues on MKI 997 cars as well. In this case the 'fingers' fatigue and eventually fail completely. The symptoms are a sudden change in clutch feel and slipping under load. The week mine failed (it was covered completely under warranty) there were at least 4 other cars in the area that had similar failures (2 at dealer and 2 at indy).
