Default More rewarding car to drive: 993TT or 997.1 GT3 ?

I have a 997.2 C4S with PDK -- Car is amazing, corners like a go cart, very easy to drive fast !

But it's not something you fall in love with...

What is more special, a keeper so to say: 993TT or 997.1 GT3 ?

I have driven 996TT and know how it feels to drive an AWD turbo car, lots of torque !

But the sound of a GT3 and linearity of the engine is also very nice, more race car like feeling

Your comments ? What is more special ?

I have had Turbos, like them. Have had GT-3's, love them!!!! Ideally, would like to own one of each! But give that I can only have one, the GT-3 is the clear choice!!! Enough said.

I love GT3/RS. But in this case, the 993TT is definitely more special, it is the only 911 turbo that I care about.

The wisdom of Solomon might not be able to answer you. I'd certainly discard the 996 and 997 Turbos as irrelevant in the context of someone wanting to drive a GT3 at the track. One road, well, it's a matter of taste and each to his own. The Turbo S with PDK would surely be awe-inspiring, but what can it do except accelerate up and down freeway ramps? Any thought of accessing its performance on the street is anti-social to say the very least.

I have a C4S PDK Cab as a daily driver. Correction. My wife has commandeered it. My daily is a Prius. : ) I have a 993 Turbo converted to 2WD. It's in the "pride and joy" category. I've had the '04, '07 and now '10 GT3's. They're brilliant on the track, but as with the 996 and 997 Turbo, "inaccessible" on the street. The 2010 GT3 RS has the redline, the gearbox, the chassis and raw power to rival competition cars. It has soul and character every time you see the green flag. Again, on the street, it's unremarkable and a little too frustrating for me to be rolling around in a loudly be-winged statement of excess. The C4S with PDK is the better road car. Simple as that. I'd never compare a 3000lb luxury sports car to a Kart -- Porsche really has tipped the needle from performance to comfort in the 2009+ 997.2, but still, it's capable of setting a very quick pace on the track, it's capable of "mountain goat" surefootedness in the snow (with the right tires in each case) and yet it will provide comfortable long range touring for two adults and two kids with ample luggage and leg room all round. Magnificent, arguably flawless state of evolution for the 911 as a "Touring" in the C4S PDK and equally impeccable as a "Lightweight" (all things considered for 2010) in the GT3 RS. And I would not diminish my praise one iota by saying that neither car can replace the 993 in the garage. The 993 is very close to the epitome of my perfect 911. Until I drove the 2010 RS on the track, you could have taken its keys from me and I wouldn't have minded. Each of the previous GT3's were great fun, but easy to let go, though I do miss them each in their own way. And today, clearly the bargain basement pricing of these giants is appealing. But once you come to grips with the extraordinary performance of the new RS on the track, it's peerless in modern cars and superior to almost any 911 that has come before. And I think it's fair to say that the 993 is on a pedestal while the RS is out there working to earn its keep every track day.

If by some dark twist of fate, I could have only one, I would honestly be torn between the 997.2 RS and the 993 Turbo. Assuming no criterion for cold hard cash value, I really would not be happy playing Solomon and making the bluff to cut one "in half" as it were from the other. But I won't excuse myself from bringing this treatise to a conclusion and a single answer as to which is a "keeper." Right now. Today. I'd keep the RS.

But ask me again once the track season is over for me for this year.

I had a gorgeous 993TT but to be honest grew weary of it's antiquity once confronted with the razor sharp experience of the gt3 and rs cars. if you're actually going to do a lot of driving, the gt3 is a better car- if you're going to bubble wrap it, I'd rather hang on to a 993TT, especially with low miles as that will be a rarer car in the future.

Boy, that's a tough one! I currently own a 993TT and have driven a 2010 GT3 a bit. I have to say the GT3 exhaust note is amazing and addictive to say the least. But if I could only have one p-car it would be the 993TT. They're really a beautiful car. But, by golly its a really tough call though. I agree with basically everything said here. Both are amazing in their own right so it will depend on what you're after most. Daily driver or track I'd say the GT3 hands down. Unfortunately I don't drive the 993TT that much but when I do it satisfies my need for speed just fine. Its also been one of the most reliable cars I've ever owned. But you could say that about any 911 p-car for the most part.

like all of these type of threads, the responses are going to vary a bit depending on the forum you post to - it's bias... and the 993tt guys who frequent this forum have an interest in gt3's.

'rewarding' and 'keeper' may be different but in this case I would put a 993tt > 997.1 gt3.

I think in general the newer cars are easier to drive faster/are faster but not necessarily 'rewarding'. With respect to 'keeper' it's a no brainer, the 993tt is the last air cooled supercar, limited numbers, and still performs very well compared to the newer cars. With mods may exceed in some situations.

Now a 997.2 gt3 rs (the first thing I thought when I drove Targa Tim's gt3rs was it felt like my 993tt - has some mods) or the gt2rs or the rumoured 500hp gt3rs is another question. I'd still wouldn't sell my 993tt to get one.

993tt is a keeper if you are not a hardcore driver.

BUT for pure driving pleasure, the 993tt is very soft, and by modern day power levels no faster than a GT3.

The GT3 will kill it every day of the week for handling and genuine driving pleasure but thats only at 8/10ths or more.... and I will be keeping my 3 for a very very long time. As CarreraGT said though, you will only know how much better it is than the 993TT (or any other car) if you take it to the track. For road driving there is very little to shout about.

CGT's got a fun perspective and from experience too. I was wondering what he'd say...

Driven a good few 993TT's and perhaps in my old days of loving turbos I'd go that way but for me it's all about high-revving, quick-revving/responsive 2WD GT3 engine's
