Default TPMS sensors- track guys???

Just wanted to get an idea of what you guys are doing with your track wheels on 2010 gt3s/RSs? Are you running TPMS sensors or going without? Does the car constantly beep or just display a fault/ error message if not running them?

TIA

Chris

Hi Chris,

Yes, using them will cerntainly reduce the number of crazy lights on your instruments. I find them very useful at the track for keeping a rough eye on pressures (they will be off by plus 2 to 4 psi, but you get used to subtracting on the fly).

Cheers!

I use them, but often one or more wont's wok or you will get a flat tire message.
Still, about half the time they do work and I find it comforting to see the psi rise and know I don't have a flat.

Damn, reminds me, I have to call BBS for my second track set to order them!

Mine seem to work well. You will get flat tire messages after your track events (temps and pressures drop). Just add air to fix the problem, you will need it anyway to get back up to proper street pressures.

Yeh, they've worked well on the track the couple of times I've tracked thus far... Just trying to decide if it is worth the expense ($1k+ here) for a set of wheels that will spend 80% of their time in the garage as dedicated track wheels... especially considering they are sealed units with a life of 4-6 years... I hope to do 6-8 track days a year initially....

I didn't bother installing TPMS on my new forgeline track wheels. Haven't used them yet so not sure about the the alarms & flashing lights. Heading to LS this coming weekend so I'll find out if it's a PITA without them.

$1k for the sensors? no way. is that import tax doubling the cost? I believe a complete set from tirerack was $360? been a while since i ordered my set on 997.1

Haven't worked out if its PAG or PCA that are milking us down under but got them quoted 2day and they are $280+ per corner (with only 15% of that as tariffs/tax).... If I pull the trigger on them, they will be coming from the US...

Just not sure as yet if part numbers for the sensors are the same for OZ and US as our system reads in 'psi' whereas in the US I believe it reads in 'bar'... assuming (and hoping) this isn't determined by the sensors or the US sensors may not be compatible with the system on my car...

you can pick bar or psi. i always have it on psi. thats pretty commonly used over bar in US. makes talking pressures with germans difficult as they prefer bar.

oh, i use tpms all the time. i have that set on the console so i can monitor it. its been consistently 2psi higher than actual on both cars. i have only seen it complain when outside temp was really cool in morning and heated up quite a bit and then you take air out of tires throughout the day as they heat up more. easily fixed by resetting the system though.

if you disabled it, it will NOT work on street either. when you use the control stalk on str wheel to scroll through the sceen, you no longer get tpms screen. unless you are strange like me. just keep it.

however it can be reverted back to tpms should you sell the car later.
