Lets talk European Vacation and Porsche Factory...>
Gentlemen,
I have a completion date of 9/1/10 for my GT3. Is it true the factory in Zuffenhausen closes all of August? Or part of August?
Can anyon shed some light on whether I should be nervous about a delay or when they say 9/1/10 completion, its pretty much on that day.
Thanks....

Yes and no. Most of the production usually closes for Aug. but they do production change-over also during this time. The GT3's are semi hand built even though they do go down the production line for certain work and then are pulled off and finished by hand by a special team of workers. It's quite interesting to watch.
Early Sept. is when the factory gears back up to full production. I'd expect they took the Summer holiday into consideration when determining the completeion date.

The current gen GT3 is made on the production line just like any other 911. So semi-hand-built stuff going on.

actually all 911's are semi-hand-built. the only robot that touches a 911 is the one that puts the front/rear glass on the car. for the case of RoW RS, the lexan rear window is also placed in manually.

Also try to take time to visit the Mercedes museum. While not as technical as the Porsche museum, it presents an interesting parallel between the development of the car and 20th century history.
