Interesting. I didn't expect to see it move so quickly. Somebody out there still has two shekels to spend.

3.8 displacement. OK; but what do you mean "bigger diameter" pistons? Is this Ruf 3.8 displacement engine given larger bores and shorter stroke than the bore and stroke of the "normal" dry-sump Porsche 3.8 cylinders of the GT3/RS engine? Absent a change in stroke, the bore size will dictate piston diameter. Also, you say "bigger" cams, what do you mean: More lift, duration, or what, especially given that the cams have variable timing control?

The RGT is my all-time favorite Ruf. It is when the 993 GT2 meets 997 GT3 RS. NA engine to boot. Simply a perfact machine.

After I won the lottery, I will start hunting for one. Anyone know who bought this one?

Hey Pong,

One of my best friends bought the car. He's not on RL but I'm see if I can get him on and let him introduce himself.

It is indeed an incredible car and much better IMO, than the 996 RGT.

Brain,

You have great taste in friends. Lucky guy for sure. Did you get to drive it? If so, please file a report. No question that the 996 RGT does not compare. At least in the looks department.

In truth, even if I have the resources to buy the car, I wouldn't know where to drive it. I'd be a nervous wreck if I have to park it somewhere. I have enough issues with my humble BTR as is.

bucking - this is based on the mk1 car, so the original displacement was 3.6. they increased the bore to 3.8 with larger pistons before porsche did. the cams are higher lift items. standard procedure in upping displacement.
this car is wild.......the new owner is very lucky. hope he appreciates it for what it is.

Now he only has to buy the matching color Stratocaster and he is set.

I've seen and driven this car.... it is stunning in person and incredible to drive.
My good friend was the original owner....surprised he sold it....but I know he'll NEVER part with the Strat...'63 or '64 in Lake Placid Blue. He has a killer porsche collection and takes excellent care of his cars...New owner will be very happy !

Cheers

I have driven both versions several times. The big difference between this one and the 996 version is the motor. I've driven the 996 version and the torque comes in from 5-8,000 rpm so as long as you're in that rev range, you get good response. Problem is in the twisties in gears 2-6 you're going reeeeeeeeaaaaallllly fast by the time you get to 5000 rpm.

In the 997 version, not only do you have 70 more hp and more torque, but the torque is available from the bottom of the rev range. Makes a HUGE difference in driveability, fun factor and you get that shove in your back at much more often because of where it kicks in.

Handling in both cars is incredible. I don't know how they do it but they make a rear engined car feel like it has perfect weight distribution. Tons of grip out of the 325s on the rear! I've never thought the ride to be punishing in either car.

In the looks department, it's not even close. The 997 has so much more street presence than the 996 version. You look at the 996 and it could almost be mistaken for any other 996 with an aero kit. You look at the 997 and you know it's something special.

By the way, Pong, I'm glad you still have your BTR.

Thanks aussie jimmy. I guessed you were making the comparison to Porsche 3.8 and not the mk1 engine. Thanks for the info.

That colour is similar to special Porsche Gemini Blue.
