Carnewal: exhaust valve remote control
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1V9lW1CW-4
Carnewal are now shipping a remote control for the sport exhaust valves that allow you to open/close them independent of the "sport" button and the "position" is apparently remembered across ignition cycling ...
for $150 perhaps not a bad solution to the dreaded sound check (if you pass wi th the flaps closed that is...)
here it is on a .2 GT3 ...
http://www.vimeo.com/12537464
although the video does not play smoothly for me...

Clever! btw just for the historic value of the information the first that I know that offered remote controled exhaust by pass valves for p cars was RUF for 993's. That was 13 years ago. I almost bought it back then.

probably a must for those that track at places like Laguna Seca ... of course there are cheaper DIY solutions available ...

The "turn ups" work even better for sound. I'm pretty sure there's a pic here somewhere (basically 90 degree elbows out the tips, angled at 45 degrees up and away from the sound check station mic.
The issue with the switch is that it leaves the side muffs open below 4500 rpm and I don't know how much torque that loses, but it's not zero. The switch design needs to have three positions "on" (loud) "off" (to pass sound) and "normal" to bring in torque below 4500, so it needs to be a "wedge" between the controller signal line and the vacuum actuator. Simple enough. Then again, one alternative would be just to keep about 4500.
But unless you toggle the switch to "off" as you pass T5, the 997.x GT3's and RS's can't run wide open and pass sound -- the turn-ups make that possible.

The switch works, but mostly for giving the engine a baritone vibrato instead of the falsetto warbling of a Boxster engine (that the GT3 sounds like below 4500 rpm.)

Remote Control Exhaust Valve Actuator
Does anybody know of a company that sells the actual valve with the remote control? I am trying to integrate it into an exhaust that I am building myself as none of the usual brands (Capristo, Akrapovic and so on) offer one for my make and model.
