A 997.1 RS or the up coming GT2 RS?

let's get into it.... keep in mind the original question.

(if i get the gt2 RS; i will prob let the pumpkin go...other wise just trade up and get a 997.2 RS)

for me:

.1GT3 RS vs .2GT3 RS, debatable, though i like .2
.2GT3 RS vs GT2RS debatable
.1GT3RS vs GT2 RS, i take the 2RS hands down.

the 997.2 GT2RS will be a keeper more so compared to the 997.1RS and the 997.2RS for that matter.
I base this on the production numbers, MSRP, and overall power the GT2RS makes in factory trim.
It is an instant collectable.

Get a GT2 RS and keep you 997.1RS as it is the right colors and options to keep for a GT3 long term and without costing you anymore money to keep a GT3 model in your garage.

As to the 997.2RS trade option:
bare in mind that every few years Porsche will always make a bigger and better GT3 (997.2, 991 etc) therefore the outgoing GT3 models will become old news as "slower" models. Therefore if you are going to own a GT3RS to keep long term you may want to consider the 997.1 in green or orange which you already have. Not for the sheer power factor, but for the fun colors that were the offering of 2007-08 only. It really is a seperate model in its own little way.

i own a orange RS. can you tell

I have pondered trading up to a 997.2RS in time, but by the time the value of the .2 is a good buy used, the lastest greatest GT3 will be on the market and will be that much faster on the track and therefore the .2RS will appear outdated as will the 997.1RS at that time. (but i will still keep the orange RS with a new GT3 next to it.)

Default what's your definition of a keeper?

I think it depends on what or why you are keeping it?

Are you looking for another '72 RS ... i.e a classic model in the history of the Porsche marque ... no one can tell apriori which will be the next 'classic'!

Some might argue that it was a 964RS, a 993RS, 993GT2, or the 996RS ...

All of these cars are special, I think the 2RS will be an amazing car, but willit be a classic Porsche, only time will tell ...

get the car you want and enjoy it!

I think the 2010 GT3 RS is the pick of the litter.

There's no ignoring price, it's US$245K, but I doubt buyers in that stratospheric price (by Porsche standards) will be foregoing the niceties. After all, at 620-630 hp, can one seriously argue that the curb weight of a bit of leather or the Nav or whatever will be the undoing of the car?

Also, I don't expect the "exclusivity" that some expect of the 2011 GT2 RS. I think the on-going catastrophic news we're experiencing (countries falling, currencies collapsing, ecological disasters, political and governmental failure, expanding and seemingly permanent wars, escalating threat of nuclear weaponry) ... you name it ... if anyone wants a reason to keep their cash in gold and hedge against the new in a flock of black swans, there's headlines every day and they all say "boo!"

GT2 RS, because of the very low number of cars built, last gt with gt1 block.
IMO it might go in the pantheon together with 993gt2; the insanity of the project matches.
