With steel rotors, do you still need that tool?

I think it's prudent even with steels, to protect the caliper and the wheel paint.

A DIY piece of PVC pipe from a hardware store will suffice.

I have one, and use it but not all the time. Wheel change with CLs takes long enough, using this device (aka the big red *****) increases that time. I try to use it always for putting rears back on. Fronts usually go on and off without device.

When I chip my ceramics I will have a different opinion.

For steels, I am not sure I see the point. The ***** is easy enough to use (she said) but when you are taking wheels on and off frequently it really does slow you down.

The point with steel rotors remains: protects your CALIPERS.
