I think Oakley designs makes a carbon fiber bar if weight is an issue.... I am assuming that it will also lighten your wallet quite a bit as well :-)

+1 to what others have said - this is a no brainer

do the roll bars rattle a lot?
If installed right, bending the washers, using the right bolts it should not rattle, or not much.
If you have a fully welded bar, welded to the car nothing rattles.

Roll bars and fire suits and HANS devices make you and your car look great. Side benefit- they help preserve your helath.
Did you post any pics of your roll bar installation? I'm trying to decide which one to go with. I want it clean and to attached to the shock towers.

I trade the extra chassis rigidity for the weight any day.

The bar will also allow you to install a harness. If you are going to track the car, even occasionally, the harness will keep you in a fixed position and thus allow you to fully concentrate on your driving.

It isn't necessary if you don't plan on crashing often

if you track, you dont want to find out that your neck isn't strong enough for rollover.

if you dont track, you really dont need to worry about wt. you can add roll bar, or a 2000000 watt stereo system in there. 3000 lbs car feels the same as a 3200 car on the street. if you can tell the difference, you are driving way too fast on street.

but hey, it looks cool. i would do it.

i talked to my fabricator, to do a fully welded roll bar, you have to weld the bar IN the car. as such, you can't powder coat it. if you coated it first, the welding will melt the joints finish and look like hell. if you weld bear bar first, then how are you going to paint it? to paint it right, you probably have to take out most of interior and spray it like cup cars. too $$$, i was quoted $1500 on avg, just for the painting part. i fainted.

with regard to rattles, i have heard some bars rattle. but like pete said, if done right it wont rattle. none of mine had noises. i had i think 11 roll bars made ;-)

i ride CF bicycles.
the are strong, but CF bars are good for one impact. so if you roll and roll and roll... your head might roll too.

at least it claims to be modular in the event of an impact and it is tuv with anti splinter technology... but I am with you... I was just pointing it out as the op was concerned with weight
