Default strange electric problem

brought 07 gt3 to local shop for oil change, new tires, and track inspection on friday. all was well and drove car about 10 miles home. left in my garage until this sunday am when wouldnt start, like it had dead battery. dash computer had errors for all systems and said 'bring to workshop'. tried jumping but still nothing. now being towed to dealer.

any ideas?

I'd be asking the local shop what exactly they did!

i will ask tomorrow but how could oil change and new tires effect electrics. it drove home from shop fine also. i think its something involving the alarm but we ll see what dealer says.

This never happened to me with a Porsche but I recall with a BMW, my key and the alarm system got out of synch .. thus the immobilizer cut in ...

did you try starting the car with a spare key?

Life expectancy on our stock batteries is pathetic. My car is < 3 years old and I've already replaced the battery. The factory battery does not take well to being fully discharged. It will complete that cycle maybe once or twice, but after that, it's done. I picked up an Interstate and it has been fine through several fully-charged/fully-discharged cycles.

The parking lights are intended to be left on all night (a European requirement), so that shouldn't be the reason.

My GT3 had a similar problem. It turned out to be a bad starter motor (presumably with a bad winding which would drain the battery). It probably damaged the battery but so far it's still cranking...

They run off a battery...

If you leave the turn signal stalk in the left or right position, the parking lights on that side will stay on after the ignition is turned off. This is by design, it's not a software bug.

Its actually a feature I really like, especially if I am parked on a particularly
dark street ... I have used it before for over 12 hours and had no battery issues

Since I dont drive my car that often, I keep it on this:

http://www.suncoastparts.com/product//95504490054.html

the Porsche trickle charger ... you just plug it into your cigarette lighter socket and viola no more flat batteries

it's worth the $114 in my mind if you dont drive your car every week
