Of course, you can modify the RS as well and the RS takes the lead, but such differences in performance are so small that it is up to driver's skill.

What a feeding frenzy.........good stuff. If you haven't tried Michelin Cup slicks then don't knock'em 'til you try them. They are approximately the same money as Hoosiers and make Hoosier R6's perform like OE Sport Cup tires.......no comparison, the tire was engineered for this car but you're going to have to take the plunge on the rims. BTW, if you do the R&P, & LWFW in one shot you'll save enough on labor to still do exhaust work but at these $ levels whose really counting the pennies? R&P 4.00:1 is should be able to be purchased for around 3k for the part. Gentlemen, enjoy either car they're both phenomenal---focus on driving them......For whatever it's worth, I think the best "first money" to throw at either car is rebuilding/replacing the weak OEM LSD and TIG welding the coolant fittings for safety on track to both yourself and the drivers behind you. Sooner or later those fittings will fail.

Thanks for all the posts, great discussion.

Chris

^ michelin blues are great but it's not the same price of hoosier slicks or R6. quite a bit of difference in fact (both in perf and price)

^ Agreed. I just paid approx. $540 more for a set of Michelins over R6's that normally would have been purchased from Tire Rack. But, they're worth it as they don't rotate on the rims under threshold braking.

How many heat cycles can you get out of a set of Mich Blues? In practical terms, how many sets do you go through each track weekend?

michelin blue is faster. maybe 1.5 sec than hoosier slick, maybe more?
if you can race on blue for more than 4 hc, you are probably too slow to justify using it.

but more ppl who are using slicks actually have a race car to put them on ;-)
get ur bitch DONE... before i retire from ancient age.

I'll let you know after this weekend. I'm testing and tuning @ Sebring with a couple different sets of tires. It's never ending quest to find the best grip/price combination. I agree, if you drive 8/10th's+ on blues they will get toasted quickly....very quickly. I wouldn't buy them if I had to pay that kind of price that's too expensive.

Check dealer allocations on 2011s, Porsche is simply building more RS's than regular GT3s. The only reason why there are more regular GT3s is they have 6 months more production for the 2010 model. Every month since they started delivering RS's, there were more each month than regular GT3s. The highest month of GT3/RS sales ever (out of any generation) was just RS sales/production last year. With the number of builds and allocations left, those numbers are going to close a lot more by the end of the model run. The simple fact is Porsche is looking to generate more profits and hence there are a lot more RS's this time around as it is the more profitable car. That's good for those buying them used, but painful for those that paid list or more.

Keep in mind it is a small sample: locally, the split is FOUR 997.2 GT3s allocated and delivered and NINE 997.2 GT3 RS's allocated and delivered,...

Not sure about suspension adjust-ability, but it is stiffer than the GT3. As for engine differences, there is a different intake similar to the 4.0 RS. Compression ratio is different hence 15 more hp.
