Walter Rohrl, Horst Von Saurma (Sport Auto magazine editor) and Chris Harris will be running a bone stock 2010 GT3 RS at the 24 Hours of the Nurburgring on May 13.

Engine, transmission, brakes, body are stock. The PCCB are being removed because they are banned from the race.

Most of us know that the 996 and 997 GT3 work better on 18" track tires. Andreas Preuninger is supervising the project, the car will be fit with the new BBS CL wheels (they look identical to the 997 GT3 Cup wheels) and 997 GT3 Cup slicks, the car should be capable to run under 7:20 with these slicks. Because of the slicks, new springs will be fitted.

Safety requirements include a racing seat, full cage, fuel cell.

The Li-Ion battery is bigger that I thought, but still a 12.6 lbs battery so plenty of weight savings.



If you read the article, you will notice that they are working on the ABS recalibration for the race. Porsche seems to know there is a problem with the street ABS and track use with track tires.

Teamspeed.com has more pics of this car in race ready form with the BBS wheels mounted. I think I am going to order one of those batteries when my Spyder order comes up and use it in my RS.

it appears to me that the hub and CL is the street version, so we only need to get the wheels.

the roll cage is identical to the clubsport roll cage except i notice it has the addition of one extra "door bar" which is a neat idea. It is probably is the new clubsport bar for the 997.2.

with the fuel cell added, i assume a CUP hood will also be fitted quick refuel?

i love the wheels. i was also curious as to what center lock devise will they use for the race. CUP or street set up?

I wonder if a CUP exhaust will also be added?

This car does it for me as the ultimate gentleman's dual purpose street/track car.

Any of you new 997.2RS owners thinking of doing the same theme??

love the wheels. i imagine this car has all the weight reduction options possible. would be awesome if they had a working a/c still. not that its needed in may in germany.

The beautiful part about this car is that it is all bolt on parts that are readily available. Tried and tested on the CUP platform.

I cant think of any other manufacture that could perform the same objective with off the shelf parts.

With just these mods a privateer could do the same which is neat.

I wonder what events this car could potentially run in USA?

Don't think it matters too much. Few people track a BONE stock GT3.

No matter what you say, that is about as stock as it gets other than the bits needed to race. The ABS is likely recalibrated due to the rollout of the wheel tire dim compared to stock instead of a "problem," and the 2010 GT3 Cups I saw at Sebring had the same exhaust as the RS as far as I could see, so no real changes there either.
In 2007 they sent me a car equipped for "racing refueling" with a carbon ring to cut out my hood and glue it in , love that battery though. I'd bet if you went to Atlanta and bought John Slagle lunch you would get a set of wheels quicker.

Put my $1 too.

I ran my 997 GT3 RS on Michelin Sport Cups 265/325 and 265/345. I also ran this car on Cup slicks (same ones to be used in the Nurburgring 24Hr by the 2010 RS).

Stock 997.1 RS diameter F/R: 25.5"/26.3"

My RS on 265/325 MPSC 19" F/R: 25.3"/26.7"

My RS on 265/345 MPSC 19 " F/R: 25.3"/27.2"

My RS on 24/64 27/68 18" Cup slicks F/R: 25.3"/26.85"

I ran the MPSC for practice and the slicks for Time Trials (Vegas Speedway, Streets of Willow and Cal Speedway). Same day usage for both tires.

With MPSC, brakes work fine. With slicks, I get into ABS ice mode quite easily under heavy braking, so I change my braking style to get around the problem. The slicks made the brakes fail at these three tracks. Cost to fix the brakes problem way too high. Cost to fix the car due to wreck caused by brakes problem, even higher. You need to apply brakes sooner and with less pressure when running slicks, anyway the extra grip from the tires slows down the car even quicker.

I have also experienced brake problems with the 07RS and my older 04 GT3 and A6 tires at autocrosses.
