RE050A N1 spec vs RE-11?
Can anyone help with any comparisons between these two tires?
I just mounted a set of RE050A N1 spec tires based largely on the strong recommendation from August Achleitner at Porsche posted in Excellence magazine. On our first test outing over the weekend, however, grip was less than stellar on my car. We were seeing lateral G readings in the ~.95 G range vs the ~1.25 range normal for V710s. I realize these are two totally different classes of tire, but I was hoping for more like 1.05 G. I'm now wondering if I can get the grip up to that range with setup, etc, or if I should consider switching to an RE-11, which might work better with my car.
I should mention this isn't on a GT3, but rather an earlier 911. I'm posting here because I think you guys will have the best feedback on the N1 spec tires, but while I'm running GT3 sizes (235s and 305s) I'm running them on a much lighter 2150 lb car. I'm suspicious that this could be part of the issue. The tires are for track racing, occasionally wet, requiring >140 treadwear rated tires.
Any input would be appreciated.

I switched my Cayman from RE-050 to RE-11 recently. The RE-11 has noticeable better grip, I like them, but prefer the feedback and grip from the Dunlop Direzza Z1, unfortunately not available in 19" or GT3 sizes.
The RE-11 per SCCA street class Solo drivers seems to work better on lighter cars, and the Dunlop on heavier cars. The Z1 feel very grippy, as good as the Pirelli Corsa system (r-compound).

I recently put RE-11s on my GT3, I can't compare them with RE050s as I have not driven on RE050s, but I can say the RE-11s are very good especially in the wet. Excellent feedback and dry traction, no issues with the RE-11s.

Thanks for the feedback guys. As it's a lighter car I've ordered a set of the RE-11s and I'll do some testing to see which works better. I'll let everyone know...

Another tire worth trying is the Kumho XS. It has better dry traction than the Z1 and RE-11 based on a test done in SoCal by Grassroots MotorSports.
RE-11 in the rain are bad, I don't like them, I experienced them during the last round of storms in SoCal. I prefer the R888 (race compound) and Pirelli Corsa (race compound) in the rain. I have heard good things about the Z1 in the rain. PS2 are great in the rain.
Your best shot is to bring two or three sets to a track day, or a 3-sessions Solo event like PCA in SoCal, plug the data acquisition, record times and compare.

I think that's right- tire rack tested them as much worse than the RE-11s, which it actually thought were reasonably decent...
Have you figured out what tires you're running at OLOA this year Peter? I'll see you out there...

I'll be out there in the '69 912 Should be fun against the GT2s. Leh looks pretty unbeatable on paper...
See you there.

Leh will be fast but you can't count out the GT-r of Will and Steve. If Derek shows up he will also be a contender in his GT-r.

For the street right now I'm running Toyo Proxes1's and in the rain they are really nice, better than PS2's. They really are an awesome high perf street tire.

At freeway speeds with standing water the RE050A I'm sure would be better than the 050A (larger tread void area), but at lower speed the RE-11 is very good- if you watch the G meter you can see me averaging almost 1 G in very wet, cold conditions on the first sweeper here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5BemZMIW8vs
I suspect the RE050A would work better on a heaver car like the GT3s, but for my money I'd go with the RE-11, Michelin PSS or the Goodyear asymetric 2 when it gets here for wet performance.
