Default axial movement

Is anybody having a clicking noise from the rear of their GT3? I recently began hearing a ticking/clunking when driving slowly (20 to 25) on a busy street with curbing and the windows down. Now I hear it with the windows up and at different speeds, but I may just besuper sensitive to it now. Normally drive to track, track car, drive home and park. On lift, removed rear undertray to inspect CV joints and axles. Axles move axially(as normal) but the CV joint at the diff also moves if pulled by hand. Both sides are about the same and it makes the sound I hear when driving. I don't think the CVjoint movement is normal and have not been able to get to dealer yet. Anybody have any thoughts on this?

How many miles on your car? My top hats for the shocks were cracked and made a god awful noise- don't know if that's your problem. I sprayed wd40 on the rear struts underneath rear carpet and noise is gone but of coarse I replaced them- the noise was annoying as hell. Swaybar loose? Mike

Almost 11000 miles. All of the attachment points for everything under the car are tight, but I did not check the upper shock mounts. I will remove the cover and check the upper mounts tomorrow. Even if it is the mounts. I still have a concern about the axial movement at the diff output flange. Maybe it is normal, but I will not track the car again until I am sure it is normal.
Thanks for the response.

OK measured axial movement at stub shaft both sides. Driver side had .062 and pass. had .055 inch of movement. Very easilly moved in and out and clunking at both ends of movement. Sounds like what I am hearing at street speeds light load on throttle. Apparently the center bolt has not come loose as I originally suspected. Anybody have any ideas?

Isn't the warranty still in effect? Let a dealer sort it out...

Waiting on the selection of a new dealer for the New Orleans are to see who gets it. Then I'll decide on where to take it. The Saints owner gave the franchise up just before the end of the year. I now have to go to Baton Rouge for warranty work, more out of the way than normal.

A 1/16" axial movement sounds ok. I would do a little test. With windows down and AC off, drive at the speed needed to reproduce the sound, drive in a straight line until you can hear it well, then turn either left or right. The turn is just to shift loadind area (path) of the ball bearings in the CV. If your noise goes away, then it's probably your CV joints or your wheel bearings, but wheel bearings going bad should not make a clunking noise.
