I think Switchcars had one a little while back. Not sure if they still have it.

There is a guy here in town who has a couple that have been converted to center drive. They're pretty fun looking cars and really quick.

Why not get a lotus exige cup instead since both are not street legal and u got a roof so running in the rain won't be an issue. Regards. Mike

Bob: What are the stats on your track? Long straights? Assuming equal drivers, and a typical 10+ turn road course, the times should be fairly similar.

Go for the 211, that may very well be my next track car. The comment about the rain really depends on how you will be using it, racing or just DE's.

There really is no reason to get an Exige Cup unless you will be competing wheel to wheel. It has no more capability than an Exige S 260, and not much more than an Exige S 240. Besides the race prep, they have 1/2" wider wheels then 240 (260 has these wider wheels) and come with slicks, and then they also come with 2-way Ohlins (easy to do) instead of Bilsteins. They also weigh about the same as 260 and not much less than 240 The difference between the Lotus street and Cup Exiges is almost all race prep. They even have electic windows. They have the same torsen LSD, but do have constant mesh helical gears, and TRD uprated clutch (may be the same as 260's) It is not like the difference between our GT3's and GT3 Cup's.

The Exige S 260 is very special with carbon fiber decklid and wing, roof and scope, ront access panels, side scoops, and front spliter. It also has quite a bit in the interior (partial dash and door sill covers). It comes with 2 way Bilsteins with remotes standard, a lightweight race battery, LWFW and upgraded pressure plate, Torsen LSD, lightweight intercooler U-bends, wtin oil coolers and an Accusump! It also deletes passenger foot rest, interior rear view mirror, and the rear glass window. It is at least another 50 lbs lighter than the 240 and has 20 more hp. of course it also has the launch control and variable TC. I believe the front brakes are even bigger. The seats too are very special and very custom hand built units. I believe they are also CF and may be FIA certified; I forget the manufacturer. The US Exige S 260 is basically the same as the UK version, which is named the Exige 260 Cup.

Options on the Exige Cup car surprised me a bit, all can be gotten at Lotus Sport. Destination $1500, FIA Fuel Cell $3100, Plate LSD $1600, Air Jacks $5500, AC $2500.

I personally would look for a leftover 240 which is brand new and can be had for $20k off MSRP. $15K off is easy, but you can get $20K at a few of them and may not even have to hagle. The MSRP on a 240 is usually between $69K - $73K. Lower equipped is better so you can save on the track pack and do your own dampers and springs (Nitrons or Ohlins). But the 240 does comes with race pads, SS braided lines, adjustable front rollbar, AP Racing big brakes up front, variable traction control, and launch control. With the track pack you even get two way adjustable dampers with remote reservoirs; but you can do better with aftrmarket dampers. You can also find used 240's with less than 10K miles for $40-45K.

Then go to sector111.com and do a few upgrades which will allow it to surpass a 260 or Cup car. Check out their aero section from Reverie. All wind tunnel tested and you can now increase the total downforce of about 100 lbs on the Exige cars to about 400 lbs. Nitron just released beautiful, high quality uprights which lower the car at the new upright attachment points (just like the 2010 GT3/RS) They have suspension uprgades from mild to full race. And all of this stuff is really parts which compared to Porsche aftermarket parts are really quite reasonable.

So if you are just doing DE's or some private track days, then a 260 or 240 will allow you to drive on both street and track with the same performance capability of an Exige Cup. You can always add a cage later.

Try Ebay or LotusTalk.com for street Exiges. There are new 260's out there and at least one at port.

If you want the track versions, then you can still order 211's and Cups.

I personally would go for the 211 since it is another 400 to 450 lbs lighter than any of the exiges with the same 255 hp.

340Elise has a lot of good points

I've driven both the cup, exige s, and 2-eleven on the track. The cup is a lot bigger difference than you would think over the stock 240/260.....suspension/handling being the biggest difference.
Also, don't forget that it would cost $5k++ to install a good roll cage like the one that comes standard in the Cup.

That being said....the 2-eleven is much lighter, and thus faster, than the cup car, and can run with the best of them. 2-eleven vs Cup really depends on application.

I did sell the one I have, but I have a few customers with cars that would consider selling them. Contact me and I'll put you on my list for when I get a used one in. I also have a few Cup cars that you're welcome to try out at our track to see if that car is what you want.

Home track is www.lecircuit.com

Lotus cup driver is was excellent, a PCA instructor like me. His Cup on slicks was not quite the equal of a 996 GT3 on MPSC.

That driver sold the Lotus and now drives a West - no way am I keeping up with that!

Best,

Bob: First, your track looks wonderful! Second, I can see why the 6GT3 could take the Lotus: Longish track with longish straights and what appears to be a couple of high speed sweepers. The 6GT3 could be 15+mph faster at times. I understand the Lotus's aero package, weight, and lower displacement/power ratings, to hold the top end down so it will max out near the 140mph mark. That comment made, I would differ to 340Elise who knows a lot more about these than i do - so I might be entirely wrong ..

A lot of us have had Lotuses and, before or later, GT3s. I have not been on the track with any Exige which can come anywhere close to the GT3, .6 or .7, although I can't say I have seen every variation of the Exige. That said, the new issue of Evo rates the 2-11 as the best track-day car, just ahead of the GT3, and the 2-11 smokes the GT3's lap time on their road course (I think it is around a 1.5 mile course with a mix of corners.)
