6GT3 better than 7 (gen1 and 2) GT3/RS?

OG....got your point
Prob should not have made a blanket statement w/o knowing your particular background. More driver input in anycase is vastly more desirable to me, in any case.
To what did you ultimately attribute your repetitive spins to?
What did other driver's with the same model experience at those turns? Do you think it was abrupt input versus mechanical issues or a combination of both?? Did the spinning issue get resolved and how? Was it a gain in experience or suspension changes that solved it?....either answer will support my initial statement in part.

^ i have all version of US mkt GT3 to date.
i think with the 6, you got to grab it by the helm and dance with it. the 7 you just tell it and it will do as told. with 6, it's lively (i suppose you can say twitchy) you have to have a sensitive *** and fast hands. even if you are smooth, sometimes the rear will move, it sure moves more than 7. you have to counter steer or correct it sooner than you would with a 7. it's one of those cars that if you are "on" you will be fast, if you are "off" you be in the dirt where as 7, you can drive it fast even with a bad flu.
rough description, i know.

Lief I am pretty sure it was due to my lifting while trying to gather the car in. There are 3 turns right, left right, with the last one being off camber. You come fast out of turn one into the first right and its a 2nd gear turn then the left -and when I was IN the leftie I was looking to setup the 3rd turn and lifting and snap over steer. I did it 3 times in the same spot. Right after the 2nd turn the leftie. Never happened again.
I assume the AWD of the TT saved me there before and then I probably learned to not lift in the 997.
I think someone was watching and came up with the term "Owe, SNAP!!!"

^ you are talking about cotton corner at button willow?
the first turn is easy, but most go in too fast.
consequently you will miss the 2nd apex
then by the last turn, you are like WTF am i going to do, lift to slow down off you go.
slow down for the first bend.
hit the 2nd apex and keep on squeezing the throttle.
it's easy to talk about it. most of the time i am busy dancing with the car at cotton corner and often sideways hahaha.

I have never owned a 997 GT3.
But, although I still own a 997.1 GT3RS, the 996 GT3 (like it's wicked cousin, the 996 GT2) requires more attention - but that is what driving is all about. I don't talk on cell phones, use sat/nav or read the paper when I drive a car on the street. And the 996 GT3 can be made without much work to be a very competitive track car. It does 'nibble' a bit on the street, but even that can be fixed. It's such a great 'raw' Porsche.
So, my ratings:
997.1 GT3RS (n=3)
Looks (who cares?): 8
Track car: 9 (you have to dial in the sway bars and adjust camber, it comes with a crappy set-up from the factory)
996 GT3 (n=2)
Looks: 6 (rear spoiler is weird)
Track car: 8
If I could have bought that 996 GT3 (matt black) from Michael Stead Porsche in SF (too far away), I would have done so in a heartbeat. The 996 GT3 and GT2 are great bargains now compared to the cost of the newer cars, if you can find a good example.
Thanks- Gerry

I have a question with respect to the later generation GT3's after the 996gt3- what is the reasoning with all that PASM/ electrical nannies that's put into the GT3's other then street comfort? I'm not saying it's a bad thing but is that the real reason. I concur with Mooty RS is the better car with an equal driver. If we had same car we put out same laptimes but he's way way more consistent- I last about 6 good laps he's truly enduro- if for example 1hr enduro- I'll be at the finish line with him behind me almost lapping me : (. yup the first 3 turn series after the loop in turn 2, you go straight for abit then that 3 banger
996 I think the reason is legality coming down the road. Stability control is a mandate I think.
Porsche is trying to figure out how to do it without losing the character of the car.

^ dude, that's called "cotton corner"
since the track can be run both direction and different config, they named rather than numbered the turns. that's not a good turn for rear engine cars. if i were in there with BSR, i can drive literally any where in the turn and block your line until you go off ;-)
mike,
PASM doesn't really make car any easier/harder to drive. must more comfy on street.
TC does help a bit. it's like an electronic LSD. just press throttle and somehow the rear will hook up.

If I had the monies or the wifey's okey dokey I have both the first U.S. GT3 and the Last U.S. GT3 variant or not (variant being RS) if it's the beginning of the end of the GT1 motor. Is it true the new turbo is based on the new 9A1 motor thats on the non GT3 997.2 motors? Mike
