How Old are you GT3 Racer

236 tracks (35000 track miles) to date
38 years old now.
In 2003 my very healthy living mom died of cancer at age 54.
I thought it was time to live a little and bought a '01 Mustang to go to the track in 2003. I started instructing since 2004.
I found out about track days after I traded some merchandise for an on track school day let 2002.
Got tired of improving and fixing the Mustang (Still have it. ) and ordered '10RS in April '08 (No new ones available unless 50K over, remember), bought GT3 in Aug '08 to carry me over.
GT3's seemed the only cars that needed no or minimal work to be bullit proof on the track, never looked at 911's before that...
20-30 track days per year ever since, loving every minute of it and worth every penny. They are many pennies though......

Bought my first 911 at age 39.
Now on my third 911 (GT3) at age 50.
In retrospect, age 20 - 39 was just wasting time; didn't realize what I had been missing. But the last 11 years of working my way up to the GT3 were well spent for developing maximum appreciation for what I drive today.

Suffice to say, there is no mandatory age to own or drive a GT3.. Half the up and coming race car drivers out there are very young, and do damn well despite lack of "experience" because of age... I was asked to instruct last year for NNJR as well, even again despite "my age" ..

Bought my first 911 4 years ago and am now on my 4th and I am now 50.
I've been driving sports cars for many years but driving the GT3 is like nothing else and in many ways offers the driver a great degree of control... one's just got to know what to do when to do it.
I think the issue about when can one drive a high powered vehicle is not so much about experience but more about responsibility. What I mean to say is that experience can be gained through dedication at any reasonable age. More often than not it's irresponsibility on the drivers part that finds trouble. So I guess then the issue is simple... one should drive a powerful car when they are deemed to be responsible and know what their limits are and are reasonably competent drivers.

Well i just got my 1st pcar at 32.. I have little track experience and the experience i do have is in Front Engine AWD.. so imagine going Rear Engine RWD.. Its MUCH different.. I have a lot of respect for the car though.. I cant wait for my 1st track day in Dec with the Gt3 to really see if I can push my gt3 faster than my AWD Subaru.. LOL

43 here and this GT3 is my first 911. I've owned 914-4's and 914-6's before and had a blast with those. I still miss my latest 914-6 and it's ultra-nimble feeling compared to the bloated newer 911. One of these days I'll be removing a lot of weight from the GT3. Gotta get back to its roots.
