Cars are sitting on lots because they are loaded with crap options by the dealers and you can't even get some of the most wanted options yet. Now they will cut allocations so you can't even order the car you want when the options become available. Nonsense...

Doesn't seem like it would be worth the trouble and cost for a handful of RS sales with the outgoing Metzger motor.

Anybody want to bet the 2011 GT3 and RS has a variation of the 9A1 motor? Perhaps it is required for Euro emissions regs. And I'm sure the higher horsepower versions were developed simultaneously...

MY11 RS very well may have a PDK...the engineers at Weissach are working on getting it done.
1. I heard the same thing on GT3 allocations. When Porsche pulled back production last year, they appear to have moved to producing only 1 specialty car at a time. Did anyone else notice that there were no more GT2 allocations when the GT3 started production? It looks like they are doing a straight mid-year production switchover from the GT3 to the GT3 RS.

2. The rumor I got from my dealer was there is a 2011 RS coming out, but it is not a GT3. It is a GT2 RS based on the 997.2 Turbo. If so, since the turbo already has the PDK as an option (plus the optional paddle shift steering wheel); it could be very easy for Porsche to produce a GT2 RS PDK. Remember also that the new Turbo makes 500 hp (20hp more than the 997.1 Turbo) with 3 less lbs of boost. Put those 3 lbs back in the new Turbo and you have a 550+ HP GT2 RS.

3. I think Porsche has already sent a message with the new Turbo that the GT1 based engines are going to be phased out. I would expect the next GT3 to have an engine based on the 997.2 engine.

4. Don't rule the 997.2 engine out on performance. It is already making power close the 997.1 GT3s in X51 form (406 HP). If you look at the specs of the new 3.8L and 3.6L engines, you will realize that putting the 3.6L crank in a 3.8L block will give a 4.0L. This with a set of Titanium rods, better breathing heads and beafier cams could give potential for not only more power, but more torque everywhere.

GT3's a great car. It's the only car they still build with the GT1 engine that came standard on 993s.

I don't think anyone doubts the performance capability of the new engine. The question is whether it can cope with racing conditions without a dry sump.

To phase out the Metzger engine would mean the new engine must go not only into the GT3 / RS, but also the Cup and RSR etc. Without a proper dry sump? Unless, of course, they make a dry sump, Ti conrod version of it for the race cars.
