Default '10 RS Rear Window

When I first read the order guide I couldn't beleive it, "plastic rear window". Called my dealer, who called the rep. Confirmed, U.S. cars will have lexan rear windows.

Why don't PCNA like plastic rear screens? Safety? No rear screen heater?

USA gets "Rear window in thin glass".

I have an RS with plastic rear window and it scratches if you're not careful. So I leave it dirty a lot where I'd clean it if it was glass. And it's a bit wavy to look through. And it has no heating wires.

Unless you really care about saving 6 lbs, glass is better.

Its easy enough to DOT approve if P could be bothered. The 360CS came in with Lexan rear "glass".

In the 360CS the lexan is seperate from the pasanger cabin. Were in this case it could come in contact with the vehicle's occupants. Like it's been said it's not and IMHO, will not be DOT approved.

It is not so much the 6lbs, I just think it is cool to have the car as much the same as in Germany, as it was intented. I wonder if you can tint it....

If it scratches, I suppose change it about once a year, as I should with the front windshield anyway, fully shotblasted by now...

But plastic is safer than glass

Plastic breaks into sharp pieces. Safety glass does not.

I'd rather have glass AND a factory roll bar!

Plastic can be a real pain--it scratches as easily as aircraft windscreens, so be VERY careful when you clean it. Good luck getting the plastic in the USA. It's a big weight savings.

No significant scratches on my plastic rear screen yet. 2.5years and 15,000 miles.

When cleaning just wash the lumpy bits off first then clean the rear screen first so no chance of anything in the wash-mit to scratch the plastic.

As for looking through the rear screen not being as clear; may well be the case; but both my present RS and my previous 997GT3 clubsport with glass rear screen had fuzzy vision using the rearview mirror at any decent speed. So if I'm really concerned with whats behind I always use the door mirrors anyway. Much clearer.
