I just like this door panel very much - nice and clean. No door pocket, no door carpet, horizontal handle (987), no light, short arm-rest, one speaker cover, and string pull.

You will have to forgive me because I have a 79' SC with real RS door panels. All they did with this car is take off the armrest storage and add the fabric door pull. This is hardly a traditional RS lightened piece. The door pull just stands out and the cover looks like an oversight as the rest of the door panel looks far too modern. My .02 is they need to ditch all the contours and got to a flat panel with a traditional pull and no armrest. To lighten weight on the original RS cars of the 70's, 80's and 90's they not only removed the door pockets, but also the complete armrests and integrated speaker grills (depending on year).

I'm glad they are finally lightening some of the interior bits and I love the look of the new door panel EXCEPT the RS door pull. This seems very gimicky to me and I'd be happy to add an extra few OZ's to my car for normal latches.

Agreed, sizzle over steak if you ask me. Too gimmicky for a $130k car.

Sadly but maybe Porsche is bending over cars at that price point regardless of what they "should" and how us performance nuts want them to be.
If I was in charge of what was to go into the RS the enterior would resemble those 60s factory dragsters Detroit use to produce and sell to the public.

The fabric door pull and "plain" door trim are surely not meant as earnest weight saving. I think they're meant -- like the 3.8 wing marking -- to respect the earlier RS models.

I think it looks GREAT, regardless of any weight savings.

This reminds me of "yet another business idea I'll likely never pursue, but could make decent money the word over" ... a retrofit kit to make 996+ doors close with the same "vault" feel and sounds as the 993 and earlier.
I'd happily pay $500 to have the doors close without the "Toyota" sound.
