Exactly 10 years ago today guys...
I liked the car then, obviously, it just took me 6 years before I can get it...
Going to try to squeeze an anniversary drive today 😏

got up early & drove mine today too. Thanks for the throwback post Ilko.
From a Porsche perspective (excluding the american muscle fun I was still having at that time), having still been engrossed in my '91 964 Turbo during those decades, I paid only "some" attention to these launches, & thank goodness for that, cuz at that time my kids were getting close to college, lots of high house renovation bills (1928 man-killer as my wife likes to say), and I am GLAD I was not so obsessed and tempted back then.
Ignorance is bliss.
I also chuckled at some of the initial comments made back in 2009::....
"Pretty goofy ... add-on extensions for the wider front fenders. Goofy is a kind word. Perhaps the bean counters got the final word."
"The rear uprights look aftermarket and no integration into overall design. CNC cut on a flat aluminum plate; wtf?"
"As for the stick-on fender flares, I think "goofy" is generous."
..............................
.... funny how times & opinions change. But the above initial impressions were exactly why my wife insisted against the RS, and demanded a 2nd Gen 997 GT3.
I also found it interesting that the launch write-up really emphasized that much of the improvements they made for the .2 RS were solidly focused on the track. I am glad they did not forget us street-driving enthusiasts with the non-RS.
And to put things in perspective, wife & I drove our 964 Turbo over 200 miles last Saturday, and loved every minute of it on the West Virginia Mtns. Just amazing to me that so many different generations, with such different personalities, can spark so much passion and excitement, yet ALL in one essential platform called the 911.
Enjoy them guys!!

Wow, sometimes when I sit and stare at mine in the garage I still think it was a risky build by Porsche and pretty damn raw track machine even by today's standards to sell to the public. I was into Evo 9's back then and had no clue about Porsche or 997 GT3RS's! What was the word on the street when it hit the scene? I bet threads were full of "is there a graphic delete or a wing delete option"? Sissies!

Cool repost....
I'd bet that none of of the RL critics in this thread bought one then - or own one now.
I do remember seeing a couple of these at a DE in 2010 (Monticello - I think).
I was plowing around the track in my Shelby GT500 imagining all the fun I could have in a GT3 RS...well, nine years later....

I was in my first year in med school when the car was announced. And ever since then I’ve lusted after them!
