I think the reaction you are seeing is that a lot of guys will have trouble with wife acceptance factor (WAF)
I love it, and am somewhat surprised that all the chatter is about color and not performance... I am more curious as to why they photographed it with red (iron rotors?) versus yellow (ceramics). Is there a subtle message, or a new option?
It seems that it is further separated from the GT3 and clearly occupies a spot as a "specialty" car for the "nearly" hard core. The cup cars are for the "real" hard core!

The decals are easily removed, although Porsche is clearly trying to make a statement that this is a track car not a stealth road car. The wing appears to be directly off the race car so it's hard to describe it as a "rice wing" unless the Cup cars and the RSR are equally "ricer". The new RS seems to be a dream come true w/ all the specifications a track enthusiasts could ask for. I think it would be a hoot to drive it daily on the street. Just flat roads w/o potholes here in Florida!

I did a quick check of the Porsche.com's used vehicle locator, and added
two GT3 RS to the registry. There are now 550 997GT3RS listed.
I just added a 2007 with 799 miles, and a 2008 with 1000 miles.
Part of me would like to see the sellers banned from ever buying another GT3.
They should only be allowed to buy Panameras from here on out.
Another part of me wants to thank them for taking the depreciation hit without
putting any miles on them. What a kind gesture to the second owners.
I just wish they'd order them without all the gadgets and widgets if they
don't plan to drive them. There is no need for a lime green dashboard if
you don't plan to ever actually get in the car.

So there should be another 22 pounds for the battery, and how much more for PCCB and headlights??

Excellent question. www.porscheusa.com shows a 55 pound weight savings between GT3 and RS. It's possible that this savings comes from the standard folding carbon bucket seats, the door pulls (minimal), and the lightweight flywheel.
So there should be another 22 pounds for the battery, and how much more for PCCB and headlights??

Specs on www.porscheusa.com show 12.2:1 for RS and 12.0:1 for GT3.

I'd like to see what the shorter gear ratios are. That, I suspect, is where the driving thrill in this car's gonna be...just rowing thru the gears at all time.

My wife would totally dig that car. She knows what I do for fun and totally supports it. She even did a couple DEs and understands that what goes on at the track.
If I suggested to her that something like this RS would be my daily driver she would be correct to think that it's a silly idea.
According to the website 1-5 is about 13% shorter. Not too dramatic, but on my home track it could help in a few places. 4th gear will be punchier and would suit some corners well for a quick exit. It may eliminate the need for 2nd in some other corners. With 8500 rpm redline I don't see many places where 5th would be needed.

This is actually a pretty big change for the better (about like changing 8:31 for 7:31 R&P in 915 box). I also expect closer ratios with smaller rev drops on upshift which will make a very big improvement too. This is the single biggest improvement of the RS over the GT3, imo.
