Default TE37 for track - 18vs19

I would like to purchase a set of te37 for the track. Has the 18 vs 19 debate been resolved for this wheel? (I need tire selection to drive to and from the track).

Thanks.

The 18" wheel/tire package is lighter than the 19" package and theoretically faster. The sidewalls of competition rubber are stiff enough that 18" is still effective.

You can drive hoosier r6's (a6's are faster but wear) to the track if it is reasonably close, I wouldn't drive more than an hour on them though.

The Pirelli Corsa Systems are hard to beat for a grippy full street tire that doesn't need to be swapped ever.

Do a search and read carefully. Most had problems with weights falling off due barrel fabrication.

Default TE 37

I've had very good luck with the Volk TE 37's. No problems with weights or balance.

You should always tape the weights. My biggest problem with wheels is getting a place that can mount 19" without using something slippery because my fronts shift under braking and my rears shift under acceleration so they go out of balance after 20-30 minutes.

Have them use the "sealant" (IIRC). It's a very tacky, almost tar-like substance. Used on my R6's to aid in preventing pressure loss and also try and keep the rim from shifting.

I have them and weights are a problem, it is possible to make them stick. but I have to clean them with brake cleaner, use super sticky weights and double tape them. Sometimes they still come off. On the outside I use the clamp-on weights.

Maybe because the finish is not shiney and smooth, but slightly bumpy??

Because they came with the car

They might be OK for street and autocross as wiith lower temp the weights should stick.

I had this same question...18 or 19 for my new 09 Carrera S. Long story but I ran into Pat Long a Hendircks Motorsprts early this year and posed this question to him. Pat did not know the answer and said he would look into it and to track him down at Sebring the following week and he would talk to some Porsche engineers.
I tracked Pat down...what a cool guy by the way...and he said because the suspension is desgined around 19" wheels and tires the Porsche engineers siad stay with 19's. I talkied to him further about this since everyone else says go with 18's especially for a bumpy track like Sebring. EW came to the conclusion that Porsche has not really does extensive testing between say sizes of
245-40-18
305-35-18
vs
235-35-19
305-30-19
with R-Comp tires for track events. I also spoke with a instructor with PSDS that I have become frends with and this guy also does tire testing for vairous companies. He said 18's grip better in the rain than 19's but to go with what ever I want as long as the diamter is the same. He did say the 19's will work with the stock suspension and provide better feel and feedback that the taller sidewall of the 18's.

So I could not find any good deals on 19's so I bought a used set of 18" CCW C10's from Mooty. I would really love to compare 18 and 19 R888 at Sebring and record track times...but that willprobably never happen. Wish I knew a guy that would swap wheels with me for a session at Sebring. Anyone?!?!?!
