Default Brake conversion costs

Starting to investigate options and costs for converting from PCCB to steel, while using existing calipers.

Help me understand what I'm looking at.

I've been quoted $2k-2.5k for convert w/ labor all around using rotors made by Coleman.

I see the Brembo slotted rotors / hats run just over $2k for 2 rotors, no labor. AP Racing may be similar.

I've seen others range even higher.

Some of the variance I assume is quality of metal, etc., but it seems like maybe I have apples to oranges numbers here.

Is it possible the first quote is rotor only, no hats? Is this even an option, or does the hat HAVE to be changed?

Anyone with the itemized list of parts needed?

What's wrong with your ceramics? If you don't want them, I'll take them.

As far as steel goes you have 4 choices: AP / Brembo / Giro / PFC.

They are all going to be between $1100 and $1700 for each end of your car. Just so you know, the 2-piece rotors will roughly last one whole season of driver's ed.

Oh no. If I convert, I'm just gonna keep the ceramics on the side. Please don't form a line.

Here's some more unsolicited advice. Don't convert to non-PCCBs.

- braking with non-PCCBs will never be as good as PCCB
- a new set of PCCB rotors today cost ~ $14k; over time cost will likely come down
- a set of PCCB rotors, if well maintained, could net ~ 10k track miles (see the Porsche Driving Experience thread)
- figure how many sets of steel rotors and related cost would yield 10k track miles

This math shouldn't lie. Best...
