Default Need dealer to put in better brake fluid?

If I wanted to put in Motul or SRF in my car, do I need a dealer in order to access all of the old fluid? I have seen some messages stating you need to use a computer to activate some valves to get the old fluid out. My mechanic just puts new fluid in the top, while draining at the bottom.

What happens if you don't flush all nooks / crannies and have a mix of SRF and stock?

All DOT 3 and 4 fluids are compatible, so a little mixing doesn't hurt. Stay away from DOT 5.

You do have to have PIWIS to activate the ABS pump to rtemove all the old fluid. I would think a standard pump flush would get most of the old fluid out.

Does that mean if you don't use the dealer, you could lose ABS performance because of the moisture buildup in that part of the system?

If you bleed your brakes often like I do, whenever you are at the track you will/should activate the ABS. So after a couple of bleeds and ABS activations you will end up with the same effect, a complete flush. This is the cheap way of doing the same thing. I use Motul RBF and swear by it.

My dealer won't put non Porsche approved fluid in my brake system. Have you check with yours? Will they use what you asked?

Woah woah woah, SRF is NOT compatible. it is silicon based and will not mix.

You don't need a dealer. Get a motive power bleeder and be done with it. There are like 100 threads on how to do it.

SRF is DOT 4 and is compatible with other fluids.

SRF is not recommended for the 997 and can cause seal damage, I believe, that is why "Authorized" Dealers will not put it in your car. At least they wouldn't put it in mine.

There is another school of thought out there that insists that the Porsche brake fluid is so good, that if you are boiling it you are over using the brakes. YMMV!

anything that srf does on a bad side(which is nothing) the not boiling everything will make up for. I also run motul 660 and I am super happy with the lower cost. that said it isnt SRF but works good enough

Almost every website selling SRF says you can't mix SRF and other brake fluid.

True. Don't mix SRF with other brake fluids. And FWIW, I have been using SRF with my PCCBs - 44k miles on my Turbo S; 26k miles on my GT3RS. No issues.

My PCCB care formula: totally flush SRF twice a year (once beginning of track season and once in mid season); replace OEM brake pads when 50% worn (at 5mm pad remaining); do a good cool down lap after each session.

Are u going to one of the member days at NJMP next weekend? Then I may meet you there and compare notes.

Cheers.

Yeh, some race shop wrote that but go to the Castrol site

It says nothing about mixing SRF with other fluids.
If it was such a big deal, the Castrol site would have a warning all over it....

BTW, I use it in my 993 for years with no issues. If I kept my GT3, SRF would be all I'd use.....

Yes - Barring inclement weather, or anything failing inspection this week, I'll be at Lightning on 5/30.

SWS1, GET the Motive power Bleeder! It makes doing your brakes SO easy
even I can do it!!!! You will be positive you drained all the fluids too based on the color change.
Its worth it and something you should do if you track. You shouldnt leave that to some clown
in a Porsche shop!
