There is no question there will be a new RS every couple years. The RSR is about 4 years ahead of the street models. So we will eventually get a 4.0L it's in the homologation rules.
People need to realize no matter how they convince themselves IT IS NOT 1973! Your car will not double in price. There will be as many as porsche will build due to demand.

Most (not all) of these recent buyers ages span the mid 40s to mid '60s because these cars (muscle cars, Rs-RSR, etc..) were the the latest and greatest when these buyers were kids/teenagers and realistically had no money at the age to buy them.
25 years from now, the kids/teenagers of today who have lusted after the GT-R, GT3RS, ZR1, Z06, GT2, Viper, etc., will be the future buyers of these "classics" which should cause a resurgence in value ............
This theory is contingent on whether the Greens, socialists, liberals, tree-huggers and do-gooders will even allow cars on the roads in 25 years.

you have a very valid point, these cars are an emotional purchase and i purchased all the cars i wanted when I was little but in the 80s i lusted after a 964 but I bought a GT3 latest and greatest i could afford at the time i was ready to buy. 25 years from now the non 3.8's will be the least desirable and when Porsche makes a 4.0 as they must to homologate the RSR even less so.
Barron, in previous posts you mentioned that you purchased the RS' for your sons. Hopefully they will cherish them as I did the car my dad got me, and more so when he's gone. That is completely a different situation then keeping it in a bubble in a heated garage. There are already too many made to make it as valuable as the 73
the 930 turbo's in contrast are the last of a breed and thus retain their value. the GT1, CGT, 959 are and will be so valuable in the future because of their rarity and place in history.
the 996 GT3 was the it car from Porsche when it came out. now it's an affordable track car to beat on. As will the 997 RS when the 998 4.0 pdk comes out.
of course a drop of gas will be worth more then all of the above when we run out of dino juice. Unless there's a frozen stash in antartica that global warming will make tropical again.
I'm a bit of a cynic but like you guys I have on on order. it's the sickness we all share.

I enjoy driving my '65, '70 S, '76 Turbo Carreras as much as one of my RS .... for different reasons.
By the way, they made a LOT more of '73 rs than the 997RS and I think that the 997RS "track lineage" (Daytona, Sebring, Le Mans) in its own right is as respectable as the vaunted '73rs (I own #1583 dalmation blue)
Also, there are far too many forgeries, re-tubs and questionable '73rs floating around. I think it will be a LOT harder to do that to the 997RS in the future.
There are too many ways to keep check on this with the VIN numbers and computers ....... it IS still possible .... but NOT realistic or probable, cost wise.
Just my opinion,
Chuck

Hi Chuck,
I figured you had a 73
You know way more about collectible Porsches then I do and I would like to know more
How many 73's did they make for sure? Do you take the combined number of 997.1 and 997.2 if you wanted to compare production numbers?
So how does this new round of 997.2 3.8 (or 4.0) RS' affect the collector value with respect to displacement change over the 997.1?

I would argue that you would also include the 996, and since the non-RS GT3 models are essentially the same from the drivetrain on up and also have a racing version, they should be included as well (which do you think will be more desireable in 40 years...a Euro-spec GT3 w/full Club Sport package, or a US-spec GT3RS with navigation and illuminated door sills?). Now you're talking about worldwide production volume many times larger than the ~1,560 of the 1973 RS.

In the future, navigation and chrono on a 997 RS will be like air conditioning, sunroof and stereo in a 93-94 RS America. Subtract 20% from the car's value if it has either of those options.

P.S. Can't wait for this new RS!!
White, full leather, sport seats, roll bar and seat belts and everything that might save weight.... I do not care what it is worth in 5 or 10 years.
