Epic... no connection. Just bumbled into it. Post for anyone looking. I'd just kill myself in it.

Scary! Just had to go out to the driveway and check my car was still there!
It is indentical to mine (except mine is faster
and more expensive
as it has more track-miles knowledge included in it)
BTW, not selling until 2011....

Guys - I'm a prior 996GT3 owner and I've been lurking for a while and been out of the P-game. Seeing some of the latest 997 goodies has refueled the interest and am seriously considering a pre-owned GT2, given the discounts from new that apparently can be had.
Specifically on the car above, what should I be looking for in terms pre-purchase? From the description of the vehicle it looks like the bumper has been replaced due to 'minor off track excursion'. I plan on looking at the repair paperwork - anything that should turn me away from the car assuming it was just bumper work? I don't mind the paintwork it has been done correctly and I can get consideration for that in the asking price.
Any thoughts on the general 997GT2 market, prices, or others that may be available aside from the ebay ones? Looking for a white car if possible.

IMO and from the 'ask and ye shall receive' dept - always ask for a pre-repair picture - on a high end car as this, the PO should be able/already provided a picture of the pre-crash damage.

I wouldn't touch this one. I'm generally skeptical about new or current model cars at independent retailers. No CPO, no dealer relationship. If that thing hiccups, the given could (quite fairly) decline warranty work if they find problems with the repairs or decide the accident damage caused whatever problem (even something simple ... there's a ton of stuff in the front of a 997 from outside air temp to headlight hardware ... some of it very expensive) and if you have to go find some random repair shop and haggle with them that a headlight isn't working or the outside temp is wrong, so the AC is not working (and that, believe it or not, is used by the engine management system ...)
Conversely, if you were buying directly from the original owner and could get a clear picture on whatever work was done, etc., then I'd be entirely confident. I'd still have the local dealer go over the car before purchase (even though the dealers tend not to offer an actual PPI as such.)
Given the price range, I just wouldn't be putting up that kind of risk for a purchase price maybe $2-4K cheaper than a dealer for a new or at least no stories car.
I've been looking at GT2's also. The market spread on prices is anywhere from an expectation of $150K and going lower to some dealers holding the line at $200K asks (I imagine they'll drop $25K in negotiations before you get to a real selling price, but there's been so few examples change hands, it's a wide open game.)
