Default wevo engine mount pics

- slowly putting together my next project pieces
- the project is to bring the car as close as possibly to a better track car while still keeping it fun to drive on a weekend without rattles

- i decided to go with the softer of the two polymers (black compound)

The complete list of my next mods includes:
- rear strut monoballs,
- lower control monoballs
- solid rear thrust arm bushings
- rear toe arms

For now, I will not be doing any of the control arms with exposed metal ball joints as from previous experience they rattle (maybe i had a bad batch but i know others that have experienced this as well) - I do know there are rubber linings that can cover the metal ball joints i just don't know if they really work

Anyways, pics of wevo engine mounts

Hey Paul, do you find that your strut tops make a bit of noise on our bombed out streets? Mine sound like the top bearing has some play, although there is zero slop in the steering or any other motion.

It's like a rattling noise. Dealership says it's normal because of the metal instead of rubber and I do recall my racecar making a ton of noise from the strut top, but wanted to get other opinions on it.

Paul what is the advantage you are looking for in changing the motor mounts? Are you going to DIY and show us how?

It's easy just a bolt. you need to put a jack under the engine to lift it up respective to the chassis.

Yes, hit the correct pothole and you hear the noise.
That is nothing compared to rattling metal ball joint control arms
I can live with the very occasional jolt

I think changing the mounts on a 997 should be basically the same as changing them in a 993...

P-car diy section will have the procedures and pics.

My 996 GT3 had full monoballs and zero noises. It depends on the quality of the parts, and particularly for the rear upper strut mounts, whether you put both top/bottom bushings and they have no play with the strut.

Paul, do you know if Wevo has the transmission mount as well?

- i'm assuming there is a reason that Porsche is introducing these new magnetic engine mounts
- I.e. the engine deflection of 1.5cm from side to side is "undesirerable"
- the new mounts reduce this by 90%
- I think the wevos will do this for far cheaper (hopefully still streetable)

- for me to go faster with the car I'm looking for more predictability from the rear of the car - ie I want less wiggle on certain corners

- we shall see if this works in combination with the other parts I have mentioned

Hope that helps

Paul

Wevo has a motor mount for a Boxster (which is really like a tranny mount), but they do not make a tranny mount for a 997.
