Hi all, I just noticed that my car has been making groaning noises when I'm making low speed turns (e.g., parking). The noise is coming from somewhere at the front of the car. Does this mean my power steering rack is kaput, or something like that? Any ideas?

First thing to do is check the fluid level.

is it a groaning noise or more like a "ping", like plucking guitar strings? if the latter, then it's normal. the sound is from the spring perches on top of the struts. spray a lubricant and it should go away. hope this helps...

viperbob - Fluid level is normal and no leaks from under the car

BobbyC - No, more of a groaning, especially towards the locks (i.e., when the pump is under high pressure). I do have the spring noise as well though.

996FLT6 - Nope, no whining noises on start up.
