Default front rotor change

i just got 2 deman slotted rotors to replace the iron factory ones that wore out too soon for my liking. these new ones are very heavy but dont know how they compare to factory drilled ones yet.

anyway, i have the step by step brake pad change instructions from this site and want to know if there's anything special about changing the rotors? i would like to have local ind shop do it to save $ vs dealership

thanks

the factory units are very heavy as well, apparently they can only make iron a certain weight.

the rotors are an easy swap if you know how to do the rears. you have to pull the caliper off of the steering knuckle and rear arm assembly and then use a big philips head screw driver to pop the screw and the rotors will slide off.

btw, I have been using Deman's rotors for about 3500 miles (track and to the track mostly) now with pagid yellow pads with no signs of wear or cracking.

Hey, they are a straight foreword swap if you have the right tools for the job.

You will need a 10mm allen head socket to remove the caliper, a #2 philips screwdriver to remove the screw holding the rotor on, and a Torque wrench to re-install the calipers.

If you dont have the above tools, or have never done it I suggest you let the pro's handle it. The end results of a mistake could be pretty big if ya think about it.

Good luck..

If you can do the rear pads, you can do the rotors because you have to remove the caliper to install the rear pads. The front calipers come off in exactly the same way.

I won't advise about doing brakes by yourself if you're not experienced doing this. Anything from unbalanced rotor due to bad mounting, and busted uprights to totaled car.

Mess with something else, not with brakes.

no way would my ten thumbs ever try this job. i would give it to indep shop to save some $ with knowledge that i would bring to dealership if they have trouble.

also, are slotted rotors specific to which side of car they go on?

This is an easy job the info above is good, the only think I would add is first The torque spec is 65 lbs. on caliper bolts. and they recommend changing them each time you pull them off. Now I admit I will reuse them once becuase I think you can get away with that but they do stretch. The rotors should be marked Left and right, has to do with air cooling ducts (at least my protosports are) . and just for good measure re bleed the brakes. If you have any questions just post as you go someone will help out.

The DeMan rotors look like they spin forward from the inside out if that makes sense, the very inner edge is farthest forward on the rotor and the most outward edge is to the back of the car when they are installed correctly plus my set were labeled in the box.

You may want to be careful if you are buying the replacement bolts anyway and buy replacement spring tensioners as well. I have cracked two of mine over time and you just may have to replace them too but I have also run with them cracked and they are fine just noisy.

Rick (DeMann)

I understand you do not have slotted rotors for the rear. If true, why is that?

rotors installed and i think theyre going to be great. install has the vents facing the rear of the car at the top of the rotor and the front of the car at the bottom of the rotor. i dont know how the factory ones were oriented and i cant see in to the rear ones.

coincidently, i looked at 997.2 rotors in a parking lot today and they seemed same as my deman rotors. i know im being obsessive but taking to track next week so better safe than sorry.
