Default Market on low miles '07 GT3

Hello again!

It's been sometime since I've posted. I sold my 996 GT3 some time ago and I am now in the market for a 997 GT3.

Just doing a "market check" and all feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Looking for a Carrara White car with the full leather option.

Thanks!

Excellent choice. Price is all over the place. Dealers leaving ads up for $200K RS's in the clouds, urgent sales of higher mileage GT3's at or below $95K and it seems that you should be able to find a nice example under 10K miles around $95K when the ink dries.

Probably higher prices around the more affluent geographies.

Probably a few "forced" sales occurring around $90K, but not once you find a nice one with full leather -- having had one in white with full leather -- and regretting selling it and being too stupid to take an offer of an RS allocation ... tears in my beers -- I think it makes a world of difference to the look and feel of the cabin.

The trick (for me) would be finding one with none of the froufrou options (sport chrono, nav, especially) but a savvy first owner who spec'd the leather without going further.

That's too bad about the allocation that you coulda' got. It's all about timing!
I could have had a MINT condition '73 RS, local car for under $30K back in the 80's but I passed on it and bought an '81 911......;(

I kick myself about that RS at regular intervals. The phone call is still ringing crystal clear in my cursed memory!

Dealer: "We have one RS available, do you want that?"

(hard-sell sales pitch, I know ...)

Imbecile: "The RS? No thanks ... I wouldn't pay the extra for just a wide body and no more power ... that's crazy money."

Dealer: "OK, well, we still don't know if you can order sunroof delete on either car. Your GT3 should be here sooner than expected."

Imbecile: "Thanks."

I've never had a good shot at a real '73 RS, though I did turn down a nice Touring once because I wanted the Lightweight if I was ever going to bother, but I don't really lament "missing out" -- other early 911 owners mention not having the desire to drive their cars hard because of the resale value, wear and tear, etc. I certainly don't need another garage queen.

I did however miss out on a nice '73 S that had an RS engine and transaxle in it. I had it inspected and the mechanic confirmed the numbers were from an RS. I was unhappy with the scruffy cabin and I found several mechanical neglect issues. But it had zero rust and was basically an unmolested S that apparently blew the engine and the owner was savvy enough to have snapped up an RS motor as a donor. That was the first time I'd driven the 2.7 MFI (at least, the first time I'd driven a healthy one that really sang all the way through the revs) and the gearbox was precise and communicative. We were apart on price by a chasm of $5K and I should have just closed the deal, but it would be another year (taking me through to about '95 or so) before I drove another RS and realized just how strongly that first car drove. After tidy-up and repairs, it would probably have cost me about $45K to be in a car that was mechanically identical to an RS but could be driven without concern for $100K+ resale. I still hope to do something with an early 911, MFI engine and period correct suspension to really learn to drive that car. One of these days. But I doubt a budget of $45K will get me very far.

There is a nice white CPO under 4000 miles at Park Place Buy it Now at just under 95K.

There was one at the Houston dealer 9000 miles also CPO and dealer would take 87K range but it may have sold.

If I were in the market for a GT3, I wouldn't start talking until MKII are in the showrooms, or the DOW is below 7000 points.

Yes, Ths car was at Momentum. I had a deal on this one but apparently there was a prior sale from the previous day that the salesman failed to make known to his coworkers.

We may see all kinds of things next week or next month. But we won't see the Dow drop 400 points. Last week did not suggest the sellers are that urgent and the recovery into the close Friday does not forebode a crash.

It's hard not to be pessimistic in such dark times, but another 500 points out of the DOW at 7500 is not like 500 points at 10,000 or 14,000. It would take enormous volume selling given the current diminished stock prices of widely held companies.

In fact, what we're seeing is buying strength in the biggest S&P companies. The 'Daq and SPX did not follow the Dow to new lows.

The past week saw record lows across the board and the DOW at a six year low. The DOW is at 7365.67, down 100 points, the DAQ at 1441.23 (flat -1.59 points) and the S&P at 770.05 down 8.89 points. Nobody's calling this an "UP" market, but I think the bears are also on the sidelines with only day traders playing cautiously to the downside

That said, 2009 is looking bleak, 2010 can not come soon enough but it is not necessarily a strong year by any means, especially once the country is carrying more debt, earnings are already set to be lower and we're yet to see the consequences of the insurers fall out. There are other shoes yet to drop. I haven't spent this much time in front of the computer since we were here circa 2001.

Cars with <10k miles priced at $95k have been on the market for weeks, if not months...even in Los Angeles. The Momentum car is an example of where the market is now...even advertised nationally for less than $90k, it took weeks to sell.

$95-$100: There are many that have been stuffed and repaired with cash thus no CarFax. Make sure you get a PPI that includes rear bumper removal with a top flight body guy. The Dallas car has been repaired
