Nissan used Cayman as 370Z target

First, the 370Z was 3360 lb in the last road test. It isn't lighter than the 350Z, but Nissan did a lot to keep it form gaining weight with the additional safety structure built into the design. They went against the curve and made it slightly smaller. Car and Driver did a comparison with the 370Z, 135i, RX8 and Solstice GXP. The Z won. It was the quickest/fastest and turned the best handling #s.

I fell in love with the 2000GT in the Bond film, "You Only Live Twice." That's gotta be the nicest car to ever come out of Japan. Toyota lost a lot of money on each one.

Engine oil can overheat and the ECU kicks into limp mode limiting engine rpm<4k rpm i think until oil cools back down. So for heavy track use need the engine cooler ($500). I don't think this is an issue for street use.
This raised a big stink because Nissan delivered 370Zs with oil coolers to the mags for the initial reviews even though it was not intended for production.

Using a car as a target/benchmark and copying it are two different things.
I was just reading how Nissan used the Cayman Boxster as their target for the 370Z. They used the 911 TT for the GT-R target. They probably used the Cayenne as the Armada target, The Porsche Panamera for the Nissan Quest target and the Porsche company golf cart for the Nissan Rogue target.
Does Nissan do anything out of their own engineering company? Or they just the Japanese Hyundai? Copying everything they can get their hands on to make their own. I used to have some respect for Nissan as the Anti-Toyota Japanese company. But now it seems as though they have a hard time coming up with their own ideas. Not much original thought there or did Infinity take all of it?

If I was in that price range, I'd pick one up. I saw one on the road the other day with the OEM aerokit - it looked fantastic and I'm glad Nissan is one of the rare manufacturers to release a new body that's smaller and lighter than its predecessor.
