Default Laguna Seca Lap Times (Motor Trend) 997 GT3, 997 Turbo, Viper ACR, Audi R8, M3, GTR

Some of us know what we run at this track. Now let's see what Randy Pobst ran with several stock cars this week.

The winner from the same test last year was the 997 GT3.

Porsche 911 GT3 w/PCCB (Driver: Max Angelelli)
3235 lbs, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup
Best lap (MIN:SEC): 1:39.517
81.0 mph avg
1.69g peak lateral acceleration

- Viper ACR, 3415 lbs, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup
- Nissan GTR, 3868 lbs, Dunlop SP Sport 6000
- Audi R8 DSG, 3654 lbs, Pirelli PZero
- Porsche 911 Turbo, 3547 lbs, Michelin Pilot Sport PS2
- BMW M3 7-Speed M-Drive and optional 50 lbs Steel Roof&Sunroof, 3678 lbs, Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 (I was not kidding with this car, try this with the AMG OldGuy...j/k)

How does GT-R's tires (SP Sport 6000) compare to the other tires? Less optimal? Or not an issue compare to the others (Sports Cup, PS2, PZero, etc.)

Would be interesting to see the GT3 in the mix again this year just for comparison with the same driver, condition, etc.. (i.e., defending champ defending its title!)

That Viper is a monster. I wonder how a GT3 Cup car lap compares to this, I wouldn't be surprised if it was pretty close. If you want a street legal track car nothing comes close.

the viper is really a come back with 600 hp compared to the ol' 505hp.

I wonder where a stock 997 GT3RS would come into play on this course?

I really had to think hard about the ACR. The not-so-local dealer had one in black with the red stripe. And it was far less expensive than the Cup.

Different altogether of course. But 3400lbs is 3400lbs. It makes up for a lot with its huge TQ and HP. But in the end I felt a full cage and fire suppression, as well as 800lbs of wt loss was worth it. Besides, I have really no discernible chest hair or tattoos.

Bad things can happen pretty quickly in a 600HP aero car. I'd be pretty concerned about exploring the cars limits without a cage and a fuel cell. (I have an aggregious amount of chest hair so this is not a factor.)

Not a surprise to me. After having driven my 997 GT3 for several thousand "broken in" miles, and then doing a back to back comparo with a broken in 997 turbo......well, let's just say I was happy to get back into my GT3.
