suspension shims/part #'s
well my dealer failed to properly align the car; they didn't know how
to get -2 camber on the front.
Anyone know what the part #'s are for the control arm shims and a good
location for obtaining them?

I've been told two different ways
Supposedly if you look up into the top of your shock from the wheel well, you will see a silver plate, if you rotate the plate you get a minimum of 2.5 degrees of camber and a max of 4 or so.
Then there are the shims you're talking about, they are 993 part #'s, try searching for those instead because I can't quite remember what they are but someone recently covered them here.

Apparently if you search for suspension shimms (with two m's) you come up with a post listing these so you may be right about the 996 being the same. I believe the last time I was under the car most of the parts on the front are 996 #'s with the rear having 997 springs and some other different #'s
996.341.543.90 shim 1mm
996.341.543.91 shim 2mm
996.341.543.92 shim 3mm
996.341.543.93 shim 7mm
996.341.543.90 shim 1mm
996.341.543.91 shim 2mm
996.341.543.92 shim 3mm
996.341.543.93 shim 7mm

to adjust camber!!!
Once glance comparison at the diagrams is enough to show this! - the 996
part diagram also contains the part #'s for the shimms ... so I guess the
only way to do this is to reverse the shock "hat" at the top of the strut
towers!!!
I feel cheated!

- i posted this info many times, the part numbers are not listed in the 997gt3 porsche parts catelog
- the 996gt3 shims are the ones you want
- i used them, they work
- approx 1mm = 1 degrees
- order a 7mm and a 3mm for each side and that will get you upto about -2.6

My dealers mech will love this! (not) ... but he should have told me that he
was unable to reach -2 as that is what I had requested ...

Is this something a dealer would do? I called my dealer about doing an alignment, and they sounded dumb founded regarding shims.
I think I'm gonna go elsewhere.
Come to think of it, will other alignment shops know how to use these shims?

I'm sure some of the racers on the east coast can chime in on an independent shop that knows how to set up GT3s (PM NJ-GT)...most, if not all, dealers do not know how to align these cars properly beyond the factory spec...we are fortunate in California to have TRG and TC Design in norcal and Steve Alarcon and GMG in socal to fine tune these cars...

I have an unused set of shims if you are interested. I rotated the struts instead. I can't use the full camber available since I like to street drive the car sometimes. I can't recall what I paid but I will give you something off.

Head mechanic at Inskip Porsche knows how to do this, also several independant tuners around here have the parts on hand. But I am in SE Mass.
