how often do you change your L.S.D oil?

theoretically, i think the more often u change the oil, the longer the gear will last?? i might be wrong??

Im about to do 10k service now..i did only 2 track days... so i guess it wont be necessary to change the gearbox oil....

We change the guard clutch pack every yr ( +/- 20 days use). The stock pack was lasting less. Oil is changed after the figure 8 break in proceedure, then at year end. Monitoring transaxle temp has shown up to 220f on a 90f deg. day. Maybe time for a trans cooler.

Ah, so you do the figure 8 brake-in also for the Guards. Nice.

Wow that is about 4 track weekends. Does anyone have a DIY on trans or differential?

Mobil Delvac/Mobilube SHC is regularly used in heavy truck diffs and easily makes 500,000 miles between changes. I am not implying that you should attempt it but it gives you an idea of how durable that lubricant is. I would think once a season is more than adequate assuming you have a properly functioning transaxle. No real benefit to changing it more. Unless you get paid to do it or you own XOM stock!

bgiere - Motorsport says to change it every ten hours on a cup car. My engine and the one in a cup car produce the same power. When I get the tranny fluid changed it comes out pretty black. I think heat is the issue and I am happy to follow the instructions for the cup car as my GT3 is driven as hard as a cup. Cheap insurance.

for two decades, I've changed it at the end of the season. One of the cars, I had for 14+ seasons. I actually considered that to be overkill.

no, it was a stock engine Factory Escort Cup car. It was track use only. I rebuilt the tranny when I got it because it had broken first and second gear synchros. The car was street driven prior to my ownership. We put in new steel synchros (were hard to find). No issues after that.

In 10 hours of racing use I would bet the lube is still fine, but if Motorsports says change it why not follow their lead. On the other hand, using the cars for amateur racing and DE there is no way you can kill Delvac/Mobilube SHC in 10 hours assuming you have a properly functioning transaxle. Even Porsche Motorsports runs it longer at LeMans...unless they pit to do a gear oil change!

ATS and Carbonetics are basically the Chinese-made Kaaz with somewhat improved friction discs. Carbon discs have improved friction over the plain steel grooved discs found in the standard Kaaz.

Unfortunately, Porsche owners have found that carbon discs don't last very long when compared to the Motorsports type of friction disc. Ask any 993 owner with factory 993 LSD who tracks their car. Black oil pretty quickly, and wheelspin after a couple track outings.
