Sequential gearbox from Quaife
Looks very interesting, especially that they have a street gearset available.

Quaife Engineering announces brand new QBE61G six speed transaxle gear box
suitable for Porsche 996 / 997 applications
Renowned British based transmission specialist RT Quaife Engineering Ltd is proud to announce the launch of an all new six speed sequential transaxle gearbox, designed to target the popular Porsche 996 / 997 motorsport sector, but at a much more affordable price than competitor products.
Called the QBE61G, the new unit has been specifically designed with all major external dimensions as per the original Porsche box, enabling a simple, easy installation into Porsche 996 / 997 cars. For example, the QBE61G's differential location has been designed to replicate that of the original Porsche transmission, allowing the use of stock drive shafts in the correct position, while in 997 Cup cars, the unit is compatible with the factory sequential gear lever and flatshift mechanism.
Extensive circuit testing has been conducted in both the UK and Spain on the unit in the rear of Quaife's own 997, with the QBE61G gearbox completing over 30 hours of problem free running with a variety of different drivers behind the wheel.
Internally, the QBE61G gear box runs on larger 85mm shaft centres and is designed to cater for applications up to and in excess of 450lb/ft and 500bhp, with a wholly mechanical sequential shift mechanism that employs the latest thinking in four dog engagement selection. Lubrication requirements are managed via an internal oil pump, while the crown wheel and pinion is a high strength, robust hypoid design.
Options
QBE61G features two gear ratio options, a road orientated helical set, plus a motorsport straight cut gear design and a choice of two final drives.
Gear ratios:
1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th
2.600 1.933 1.533 1.250 1.043 0.880 (Race / straight cut)
3.000 2.000 1.458 1.143 0.921 0.780 (Road / helical cut)
Final drive ratio options
3.700 4.125
Differential options
QBE61G features two differential options. Customers can specify Quaife's own renowned, popular and well proven automatic torque biasing (ATB) helical gear limited slip differential, or alternatively, a 996 style clutch plate limited slip unit is available at extra cost.
Bespoke QBE61G Porsche 996 /997 package (QBE61GP)
As part of the product launch, Quaife is delighted to announce the availability of a bespoke Porsche 996 / 997 QBE61G installation package, including:-

There is only a few such as Holinger, Porsche Motorsports themselves or Ricardo who will be bulletproof (and failures are still quite common in 24 hour races).

I read an article recently in last month's...911 World(?), or another British magazine dedicated solely to Porsches who put this trans in a 996 or 997 Cup car and gave it great reviews, especially considering the low price compared to the Factory OEM MY08 Porsche 997 sequential gearbox, which is roughly 2x the price (Please excuse run-on sentence!). In any case, if anybody is interested and has not seen this article yet, I would be glad to let you know where I saw it tomorrow if I can find it!

jean, just out of curiosity, do you think running it in a 996 gt3 (just 381hp) would be an issue torque wise? I don't even know how legal the 'box would be in any of the local racing events, unless it was in a 996 cup car.
the only reason I ask is because we happen to have a quaife distributor/service specialist close to my home...the thing that worries me-
"we've spent 30 hours testing on the track" - doesn't seem to be enough does it?

It all depends on the usage. If you are going to use a sequential gearbox for a street car, you need to know that the mileage you put on that car will drop tenfold as a result of the unfriendliness of such setup.
If you use the sequential gearbox for some Club events only and normal track days, I am sure it will be fine, assuming it has all the needed testing already performed on it (and that means certainly not only 30 hours!!!)
Think about how many hundreds of throusands of hours have the Hollinger, Porsche Motorsports and Ricardo tested those gearboxes in Porsche racing environments and how important are the learnings from all that, and then make up your mind. If a $30k Euro gearbox can get damaged during a single 24 hour race, imagine what can happen to this one.
I would never buy one for my car, be it n/a or turbo, until it has been tested in racing. Since this is a sequential box we are talking about, I assume it will be abused. Otherwise get a sequential shifter from Cartronic for the fun factor, it is much cheaper, silent and user friendly.
For that money I would upgrade my gearbox to make it undestructible instead of going sequential with unproven reliability.
As to magazine articles, how can they say they are good by testing them for a couple of hours at best or how qualified are the magazine test drivers to know what is good or bad when we are talking about reliability?
Quaife is a great company BTW, I am just talking about this gearbox for Porsche.

thanks jean, I'm glad my reservations are matched by someone who's actually got sequential experience such as yourself.
I tried looking up ricardo online but couldn't find anything (just to compare out of curiousity)
