the 996 tt has an issue with the power steering pump/clutch accumulator that causes a whining noise within the engine compartment. the noise disappears when the clutch is depressed. do not know if this condition occurs with the 997's, but sounds like it. definately take it to dealer and have it checked out.

My struts have been replaced for causing squeaks from the front of the car over inclines and some bumps in the road. One of my friends has had his replaced 3 times now. You can hear it more with the windows open at slow speed.
My door also makes a creaking type of noise, I believe they can tighten it sometime if I took the car in. You can hear this one mostly at 70+ windows up.
My sunroof makes a dull creaking sound over some types of speed bumps..
Hope some of this narrows it down a bit or at least eliminates some possibilities.
