Default early oil change?

Hi everyone. This might be a stupid question but I am just wondering why do people get an early oil change (before the 2 year, 20,000 km recommended by Porsche). Also, after a long storage (i.e. 4 months), should I change oil even through there were only 3000 km before the storage. Thanks for your help!

You want to do the first oil change early to get all the metal shavings out of the oil
due to new pieces rubbing and wearing quickly until everything seats and matches up
well after a few thousand miles. Those metal shavings can cause unusual wear so
its good to get rid of them.

what OG says is gold...should change after break in...if you know you are going to store a car for 4 months you should change the oil before you put it in storage because of the deposits, moisture and acids that have accumulated during the 3000km you have driven it...just my opinion...

I agree with changing the oil early on a new car. But, just how many miles is early or way too early? I usually change the oil on a new vehicle at 5 - 8,000 miles depends on what car... camry first 8,000 miles, bmw first 5,000 miles, p-car may be first year because the gt3 will only have 2500 miles on it, if that.

also, shouldn't the oil filter take care of the shavings?

I changed my oil at 2800 miles, filter and all. I even ran the used oil through a screen and checked the filter very carefully only to find some excess gasket materials.
Better to be safe then sorry. And the car runs stronger after the oil change.....in my head anyway.

Aloha.
