Do any of you get clutch chatter when driving in stop/go traffic? It seems to get better when I get the chance to get some highway miles on it or a few hard bursts, but if I'm stuck in city driving for a while, the clutch tends to chatter quite a bit. Anyone else have this issue?
Also if you have a standard GT3 and have the LWFW upgrade and RS clutch it will chatter.
IN fact that what a real clutch is supposed to sound like. Porsche used the Dual mass flywheel to apease
the US customers that dont like no noisey clutches.
Sorry, I don't mean the noise you get from a single mass flywheel. I'm speaking of actual clutch chatter as the clutch "judders" when it engages and disengages.

Too right. It was up to the 964 that Porsches used to use single mass ones....
if it shimmies, shakes, shudders or judders I think you might have a wear issue with your clutch, or possibly a loose bolt somewhere...get it checked out immediately. there was a thread on one of the pulleys or wheels snapping- better safe than sorry.
Now that I think of it, the judder coincided with an oil smell. I have a feeling a seal is leaking oil onto the clutch/flywheel and causing the poor engagement. It would make sense that if I drive for a while, the contamination has time to disperse or burn off. I'll take it in this week.

I'd appreciate an update after your trip to the dealer as I experienced the same clutch behavior this past weekend. Good luck!
My clutch gets the judders every now and then for a few days, then clears up. It's done it since new. Dealer checked it out and found nothing. Sometimes it's quite bad, particularly in reverse (straight line, so nothing to do with LSD). I've stopped worrying about it, but if you discover a reason, please let us know.
LOL thats a NORMAL smell of a 993 and earlier 911!
It's funny you mention that! I'm so used to the smell of oil after two air-cooled 911's (964 Turbo and 993 Turbo) that I don't even notice the smell anymore. It's my passengers that noticed it.
I will provide an update when I get the car to the dealer. As one of the above posters noted, it's really bad in reverse sometimes. I drove a Boxster today and man did I love the light clutch!
I had a 993 TT and I loved that smell. What is funny about the smell is one guy bought his first TT and the smell drove his wife batty. He was desperately looking for something to get "RID" of the smell and us water cooled guys are looking for something to *replace* THE smeill!!
Fc-racer - I have the short shifter in my Boxster. When I drive them back to back I miss the short positive non-knotchy throws on the Boxster, although I prefer the heavier clutch of the Gt3 - reminds me of my 993!
Just an update, I drove the car today and no chatter, but I do get it even the car has been idling through rush-hour type of traffic. Perhaps it's heat related? As others have noted, I get it far more in reverse, but it does appear to come and go.
I'm still going to take it in to the dealer to have it checked out. Will report back what comes from the visit. Thanks!
