I am still looking for some official numbers on the 997 seat weight. I was told by Suncoast that the 996 GT3 seats weigh 35 lbs each. Today they happened to have a regular 996 seat sitting around, one with only the power back rest and the rest manual controls (just like my 997 seat). That one came in at 50 lbs (they weighed it while I waited on the phone).
So if our base 997 seats also weigh 50 lbs (which seems about right to me), then there is only a weight savings of 15 lbs per seat for a total of 30 lbs.
If that is true, then I would be disappointed. Sure, you get the benefit of the real GT3 seat t work with a harness, which is better for the track, but I would also like to lose about 60 or 70 lbs of weight; which is what I thought it was supposed to be.
Let me know anyone who has actually weighed the seats or knows the real weights for a 100% fact.
thanks, Stephen

I can weigh the stock seats; but the 996 seats are already being installed I'd have to haul one out again

I just weighed my seats with and without the sub strap bar:
996 GT3 leather without factory sub strap bar....29 lbs
996 GT3 leather with factory sub strap bar....31 lbs
This was using a bathroom scale with me standing on the scale holding the seats. Should be within a half pound or so.
Cheers,

I did a search and finally entered the correct combo of words to find what I want.
The 996 leather are 28 lbs and the standard sport seats are 52 lbs. Total savings; 48 lbs. That is worth it to me.
The ones with the carbon shells are only 2 lbs lighter each.

Don't even think about mounting the seat belt receptacle inside a 996 GT3 seat. It will make you miserable and probably works just as well outside.
BTW, I have 36" waist also and the 996 GT3 seat is just about perfect. Leather looks much better in the GT3, IMHO.
PM me with your email and I will send a photo of my installation with the belts outside the seats. (Rennlist cashed my check but still won't reinstate me as a member so I can post photos)

lawjdc, it does work just as well well mounted outside. I put a thin pad on the seat belt recepticle so it doesn't scratch the painted center console. I had a waist up to a few years ago but it morphed into something else entirely I do fit in the 997 GT3 seats and once seated, I am comfortable.

Does anybody know why they've moved them inside on the 997? It's really uncomfortable. The only thing I can think of is that it offers better crash protection when mounted inside?
Or maybe the seat or console in the 997 is wider, leaving less room for the belt?

the belt receptacle can be pulled inside or outside of the seat. it has nothing to do with mounting. there is only one way to mount it, but you can pull the buckle however you like. this is true of BOTH 997 or 997 gt3 race seats.
if you have gt3 seat in ROW mkt, the belt receptacle is NOT the same as USA model. the buckle that comes with ROW gt3 race seats are longer than USA buckles by .5-.75".
TECHNICALLY, it's safer to have the buckle inside the seat b/c then the belt is sitting on your lap, if buckle is outside the seat, there will be a gap b/n ur lap and the belt. well, if you are really big, that gap will diminish.

I say get the leather seats and drive in them and see if you like them. You can always order the inserts later this summer.
I have the leather Euro seats installed in the 996 GT3 with harnesses and a roll bar and it looks incredible and I stay plenty planted at the track. I have already purchased another pair from Suncoast for the RS. The Euro seats are to be installed the first week of May along with my Rollbar and harnesses. I just have to make sure I have PWIS adjustments OK'd.

See i'm starting to have the same comfort issues there... I body build and well, my back/shoulders are pretty damn wide, and after a while in them now it starts getting annoying I still love the seats though!
