Is the rear deck lid different on the RS and the standard car (other than the wing of course)?

When I was escorted through the engine line last May, the RS engines were flagged so as not to be mixed up with others. I was not allowed a camera, but I know I saw a tag. Just wish I had taken notes as to the more subtile differences.

All the engines are labeled with zipcodes and countries, and model designations...I saw a UK GT2 engine while I was there in november. The engines are destined for specific cars, it's not a random thing as to which engine goes in where, but they're built and installed based on the assembly schedule. each country probably has different ECU tunes- emission regs, pump octane and all that.

So Terry the dentist in Ottawa orders his green gt3rs, and when they build his engine, it's based on the fact that it's going to him due to production of the custom interior parts...not because of the fact that it's an RS. As you who've been there can attest- they're extremely organized. But the engines of the GT3s, Turbos, etc still get put together by hanz and franz in about 2-2.5 hours...pretty quick.

fwiw my RS was on the dyno a few days ago...378.6 rwhp on the second run. 1st was 375.9, 3rd was 377.2. not really sure what that matters but I'm pretty sure the engines are all the same on any 997gt3/rs.

speed freak is right- the rear deck lid is actually 2lbs lighter (16 vs 18). daytonaviolet I believe just weighed them last week.

the suspension and LWFW are really the main differences with the RS, but you can get suspension goodies from GMG or Trj or any of those cup team people to adjust it better for the track than the stock components.

CJI, I agree with your observations; consistent with the Toyota Way. However, they ARE doing something different with the RS engines and they WERE flagged with 4x8 cards wired to the engines and stating "RS" -- at least at 11:30 am, Friday, May 11th, 2007. Maybe it is as simple as longer dyno break-in.
