Default 997 Rear Bumper Impactability Not Nice

I have made much the same posting as this in the 997 Forum.

PCNA has informed Transport Canada that the rear bumpers on ALL 2008 Porsche models in the USA do not meet the Canadian impact standard, which is 5 MPH. That is mighty strange, because the 2007 models did meet the 5 MPH standard. The US Federal requirement for 2007 and 2008 models is 3 MPH.

Due to the rapid appreciation of the Canadian dollar, many Canadians were purchasing Porsches in the USA and importing them into Canada, as the savings compared to a purchase in Canada were significant. The retail prices in Canada have now been reduced by PCNA, but not sufficiently to eliminate the entirety of the savings available by a US purchase and importation into Canada. My suspicion is that what PCNA has told Transport Canada is BS.

Do any of you know what the impactability of the rear bumper for any 2008 model is specified by Porsche as being? I'm told that in California, it has to be printed on the window sticker. If any of you have the answer, please post it here.

Transport Canada says that Porsche has told it that for 2008, the two impact pipes (Part # 996 905 019 01) and their mating two desk pad impact absorbers (Part # 996 505 775 00) that support the rear bumper have to be replaced with the Canadian specification ones, Part #s 996 905 015 01 and 996 505 775 01.

To maintain higher prices in Canada, either Porsche has reduced the impactability of the rear bumpers of its US models, or for its Canadian models is using different part numbers for the same two parts. Not nice in either case. If the former is true, you should blast PCNA.

I took delivery of a 2008 GT3 in California. Rear is 2.5 MPH. Here is a photo of the window sticker:

Thank you Chardonet.

So the Certificate is that the rear bumper was tested at an impact of 2.5 MPH. I'm guessing that the Certificate for any model year 997 before 2008 said the same thing. Does anyone out there know the answer to that one?

One thing is certain. The rear bumpers on pre 2008 US 997s complied with the Canada Federal standard, which is 5 MPH, and Porsche has told the Canadian authorities that the 2008 US 997 does not comply with that standard.
