There is a rumor floating around that the next TT will be a wetsump motor
like the typical 997 carrera. Some people are guessing the GT2 and GT3 will follow ( I dont see how racing ALMS and LeMans would allow Porsche to cheapen the GT3 motor) If they do, after the hoops Porsche made us go through to get our GT3s and GT3RS's I would look somewhere else to invest my dreamcar dollar.
What would you do if the 998 came out with a common carrera type motor in our GT3.

I could see them putting the m97 in everything, maybe the gt1 for gt3rs and gt2's. TT's and 3's would be looking at the m97 powerplant I'm afraid. PAG is all about profits, by doing the above, they save ~15k per car, yet that savings will not be passed on to the consumer.
They can sell just as many cars, most with a cheaper, mass produced motor, reserve a few 'good' engines for special cars to satisfy racing rules, PIA customers. It's ingenious!
Believe me, they've studied their demographics very well on this one.

The water-cooled engined a little more than a hundred years later... In both cases (and there are many more), they were derided as being insults to tradition, beauty, etc. They're pretty well accepted now!
I imagine the people at Porsche are extremely unhappy about last season in ALMS after losing to Ferrari. I'm confident that they intend to do something about it. If it not keeping the dry sump engines in the 2s and 3s, it will be something else. They will have some new technology to make the cars go faster AND charge a healthy premium over regular 911s. In Porsche I trust!

I highly doubt that Porsche will be compromising the GT cars. Their primary GM increase will be coming VW and Audi; now if you had said that Porsche would force the R8 to be a wet-sump, that would be more probable IMO.

I am out too, I would be looking at some sort of challenge Fcar at that point.
It would take me longer but thats what I would do. OR Chris would keep his TT
and I would keep my GT3. Porsche would be playing with fire with this one I think.
Normal Carrera buyers dont know or care but we do and the word of mouth would be
severely damaging to Porsches cred. They would no longer be a sports car company,
in my mind

Lief good point, but you would think at SOME point Porsche would care as their cred slids past Nissan.
When do they stop? when they start having Porsche Kia on the same lots?
