Default Oil level measurement

After owning 5 modern Porsches with the electronic oil level check, I was a bit surprised that the 997 GT3 does the check while the motor is at operating temp (this part is not surprising) and is running (this is surprising).

I guess with the dry sump motor this is the best way to do it, or is it just a new system from Porsche that is more accurate? My 2005 997 and 2006 Cayman S checked it with the motor off.

I just noticed that some are trying to get a dipstick to measure the level, which I also prefer, but I was surprised about the electronic check while the enigne is running.

Can anyone shed some light on why it is done this way on the GT3? I did a search and did not find anything on this. I hope this is not something that is common knowledge about dry sump motors or the GT3 motor. This is my first one so I am learning more about it every day.

Thanks,

Stephen

The engine should be running when checking the oil level with a physical dipstick too (dry sump engine).

I was going to ask that; that would make sense. Thanks!

I downloaded the attached from one of the posts. I hope this helps. Can't remember the source. Apologies to the original poster.
