Default THINGS TO WATCH FOR -- BUYING GT3RS

I am in the market for a 997 GT3RS and wanted to ask your advice for things to look for when evaluating the car, so that they can be taken into account when buying/getting the car ready to go.

I was actually very interested in Richard's car which is gorgeous and ready to track, but I have to trade in my 996 TT and 997 C4S so I will have to go thru a dealer.

I read about the RMS and will watch for that. Anything else critical?

Now looking at GT3RS #2829, silver with orange/orange, with only 800 miles, at Porsche Roslyn. Car is in absolutely perfect conditions.

Can't wait to drive the Gt3.. i am already very happy with my C4S and Twin Turbo! I love Ferraris ( I have the F40 now for 6 yrs..it is amazing and a great car to drive) but I l adore Porsches. I am sure the GT3 will live up to my expectations..I will be happy to give u a comparison report!

Thanks guys. Looking forward to your advice.

I would buy any color but Silver. The Green is hot, Black is hot, and Orange is hot. I sold my Green RS and I have followed all of this for quite some time and I do not think that anyone will argue that silver is the least of all colors. White is so pure and more rare.

Hey Matt,

I am really good friends with Hendrick Porsche. Do you want me to call and see if they would be willing to half broker a deal with your cars and mine? I don't know your cars or what you want for them but I would be happy to check it out.

Thanks Jim for your advice. Other than color choices, what mechanical items should we be all aware of?

Much appreciated.

Just buy one and drive! You'll never get tired of it. Just don't bubble wrap it or make it a concours queen. As you can see from my sig below I too have had a C4S and a 996 TTS...the RS is "the ride of my life".

That said get a PPI done, what you obviously don't want to see is type 2 revs (misshifts). If there's RMS, it's really no big deal. Porsche will fix it for you. If the car's going to be tracked ( i hope it does) then get the safety equip/seats installed. Yeah, also get a one piece clear bra treatment for...front bumper, whole hood, fenders, wheel arches and the rear hips.

11k miles here and nothing else even comes close to this car.

Cheers and good luck.

i was just going to suggest that once you and richard agreed to a price, the dealer can broker the deal and trade the three cars, taking your two cars into inventory and sell richard's car through them. pay them 1-2k in fee. that's usually how i do it. i never sell my cars to private parties. too much hassle.

most RS so so new and low mileage, there's not much to chk. makes sure it's not hit before and download ECU for over-rev then you are set.

dont worry about RMS. if it happens just replace it (warrantied). if you buy one that doens't have RMS prob now, it may occur in future. if you buy one with RMS replace, it may or may not happen again, so it's pointless to worry about RMS.

have fun.

Thanks Bobby and Mooty, once I ask dealer and get the PPI/Ecu download, is the report easy and self explanatory to read to determine over-rev?

WTF?? I guess I really am old school. Back in the day, pre 1964 when I first started my Porsche career, almost all factory race cars were silver!! I love silver Porsches!!

No, silver the color is a great Porsche color. If I was to buy a Turbo or a CGT I would buy silver. I just think the market for the silver RS is the softest of the colors. The orange on the silver does not do it any favors in looks. But this is just my opinion. Sorry if misunderstood.

Orange RS are the faster ones. The only RS I have seen really hauling are Orange.

Green, Black, White and Silver are quite slow. Indeed, some of them don't go faster than 0 mph.

IMHO Richard has one of the best deals out there. He has already installed all of the "must haves" for the RS and done them tastefully. Not to mention, his is the BEST color combo for the RS. All the black cars have more HP than any other combo.
