Default Please help identify this part

I found this in the area behind the driver's seat. I'm assuming it's a part from the seat, but am not sure. It's 3" x 1.5" x 1/8" and is made of plastic; there are no part numbers on it. Does anyone know where it belongs?

It appears to be a highly engineered part so it must be very important. Please drive with restraint until the mystery is resolved...

If there is no number, then it isn't a Porsche part.

It looks as though it must be part of the hinge area where the seat pivots forward and back. I'm 9000 miles from my car so I can't look at it, but I thinks that's a really good guess judging from placment of the holes and the "sawtooth" piece.

See if you can identify a similar peice on the other seat. They are usually symetrical.

did some research on this mysterious part....the Porsche GT3 PET "katalog" section dealing with the myriad parts that comprise the seats and associated mechanisms does not clearly illustrate this particular piece. The fact that it does not have a Porsche ID number on it is unusual as they have numbers for every part (even part numbers have numbers!) will keep looking...

I was thinking the same thing until I realized the piece is maybe only 3" across; see how the OP placed it on his Macbook's keyboard near the arrow keys. Are we sure this isn't from, like, a kid's toy that was sitting in the rear footwell?

Thanks for the insight everyone and especially Leif997 for the in-depth analysis; I really appreciate it.

To answer some of the questions. There have been no toys in the back seat as I've never taken kids in the car and I can't think of anything that it would have come from besides a part from the car.

Please keep the suggestions/ideas coming.

I'd bet money that it's part of your helmet. Goes underneath the shield on the left or right side and provides ratcheting to your face shield.

I think you hit it on the head!!....I pulled similar hardware off of my helmet once when I did not want to run it with the visor....so...does he have a visor-less helmet or not?

I ran to my helmets to check but it doesn't look like it's from there. I checked my helmets and they all have a different ratchet mechanism than what the plastic part implies. Both my helmets are Bell and have the following mechanisms:

I'm going to get under the seat tonight to see if something turns up there. I did buy a new Bell helmet and I wonder if perhaps this was a part the shop left in the box or something from another manufacturer?

Some Porsche tech at the port is missing a piece from his shop vac attachment...
