Cup car vs GT3 RS
I posted this on cup car, but not many people there:
Been having an awesome time in the RS. This coming year I want to step it up a notch and do a few races. Been considering a 996 cup. How does one compare to the RS performance/lap-time wise? Are there other factory race cars, with the exception of the 997 cup, that will compare to the power and handling of an RS? Is there such a thing as a factory race car with an endurance engine? Advice and guidance is much appreciated!!

A cup car if faster than an RS, lighter weight is the main reason. All Porsche cars come with an endurance engine.

Rog,
www.pca.org has the results from club races at tracks all over U.S. Compare the lap times between the GTC3 cars (996 stock Cups ) and B class (996 GT3).
The B class prepared 996 GT3 are much faster than any stock or close to stock 997 RS.
For instance, at Road Atlanta, the difference between track records of a B class 996 GT3 and a GTC3 996 GT3 Cup is close to 7 seconds per lap. Expect a difference of over 8 seconds between a fast driven 997 GT3 RS and a 996 GT3 Cup, pretty much an eternity.

there really is no comparision between the two cars... the rs is soft incompaision to the cup, heavier,
i can tell you the slope becomes very slippery when you enter into the 997 cup world. 996 not to bad but is just a different car, 2200 dollar slicks that last 10 to 14 heat cycles, hour meter is always running on the engine time,( if you are running 50 percent) or all out.
the 996 cup will smoke the rs on the track, the grip and rigidity of the cup is undescribable...
do some homework on them.. there are some good deals on the 996 cups now.
the 04 and 05 cups are great cars.

I can tell you the that 996 Setup Cup car made my 996 Setup GT3 seen like a Mini Van. The Cup car is just fast and intoxicating. On most parts of the track I could not even hear my student with my communicator in the Cup car, but it was one heck of a fun ride.

Thanks NJ-GT and 930! Great info.
Zic, I'll take you up on the info when I find the car. Thanks!
There will be several cups at the PCA race at Roebling on Dec 1 that I'm going to be taking serious notes on. I've also seen some pretty good deals on 996 cups here and there. I'm definitely excited about driving one! Autometrics seems to be the best source for maintenance and maybe a car for my area.

Yep, I'm hearing you guys! I've got it bad! I've got to give some props to mooty...I've asked him more questions than a first grader on career daddy day.
I'm going to hook up with autometrics the 30th and then DE that weekend for during the PCA race. Anyone coming to it? (Leif, bring your RSR!) (here comes the slope)
